Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you must have heard about this seasons hottest – most wanted holiday toy, the Zhu Zhu Pet. You may not know what it is, but you had to have atleast heard the name.
But now Zhu Zhu Pets, which are little toy hamsters that move around, are causing more of a scene because Good Guide, a consumer group, is claiming that the toys may contain levels of metals that could be harmful to children.
On Sunday NBC News reported that The Consumer Product Safety Commission has opened an investigation into the Zhu Zhu toy after a study by Good Guide says they may contain a higher than allowed level of antimony, a heavy metal which if ingested can make children sick.
A statement by the agency said:
“CPSC is looking into the Zhu Zhu pet toy and we will complete our review swiftly. With new safety measures in place for children and toy recalls down from previous years, consumers can have greater confidence when shopping this year and in the CPSC.”
I’m just thankful my kids haven’t asked for or even mentioned Zhu Zhu Pets. They seem a bit silly to me…

Hello. As of Dec-2009, it remains CONFIRMED that Zhu Zhu pet MR. SQUIGGLES does contain high / DANGEROUS levels of Antimony. See the Wikipedia definition of Antimony here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antimony
EXCERPT:
Antimony and many of its compounds are toxic. Clinically, antimony poisoning is very **similar to ARSENIC poisoning**. In small doses, antimony causes headache, dizziness, and depression. Larger doses cause violent and frequent vomiting, and will lead to death in a few days.
Why in God’s name would any toy manufacture include such a DANGEROUS chemical and then, only AFTER public discovery (no product warning on the box), defend it as safe?!

In my opinion, the public should AVOID Zhu Zhu pets altogether.
