Will this go down as one of the worst VMAs ever?
September 7, 2008
If anybody took time out of their busy Sunday night to watch the train wreck that is the Video Music Awards, we could all agree on one thing. It sucked.
First the host, English actor/comedian/vj Russell Brand. I thought I was back in the 80’s watching Dee Snider host “Head Bangers Ball”. For the 25th anniversary of the VMA’s why not get someone with a little more star power to host? Jesse Camp would have done a better job.
Sway interviewing before the show from a helicopter? Who did he piss off to get that gig? It reminded me of the traffic guy at the local news station who doesn’t understand amplified sound. If you want to interview someone from above and look big budget, try outer space!
MTV promoted/hyped/threw in my face Britney Spears comeback and much like their reality shows commercial break previews (to keep you tuned) it was a big fuss over nothing. No performance. Although she won 3 moon men. Congrats Britney, likely not to show otherwise.
Here are some other notables:
Kanye West ending his year long boycott of the show. What wait a second…..
Jordin Sparks coming to the defense of the Jonas Brothers. Reminded me of Sean Penn (Debbie Downer) coming to the aid of Jude Law at the Oscars.
The long pause by Jamie Foxx before presenting an award. Uber suspense.
Demi Moore without a microphone.
Some positives about the show, Kid Rock (with drink in hand). Lil Wayne. Oh and Rihanna’s jacket. My eyes were glued, waiting, watching, hoping….

I will agree with you!! This was the worst ever VMA’s. I had no clue who Russle Brand was and after last night could care less. It was horrible!! MTV could have done way better for this being their 25th year and all. I have had dentist appt.’s that have gone better.

I agree this was the worst VMAs ever as well as last years vmas it was just lacking the luster and fafame the vmas used to bring their were barely any stars there and the hollywood backlot theme was poorly down in my opinion i am yet again disappointed

I think that these VMA’s definitely made the list for the worst video
music awards ever. We all thought last year was bad but this year took
the cake. Russel Brand was the worst host and there were more mistakes
than I could count on both hands. I kept waiting for someone to come
out saying that it was all a huge joke. The best part were the few
performances by TI, Rihanna, lil Wayne, and T-Pain. It won’t be hard
to top this years VMA’s next year because this year sucked!!!

i think not only was he the worst show host but all in all this was the worst VMA’s ever!!! Every year you get swept off your feet by performances and this year they looked like music videos. and they alll were HORRRIBLLLEEE performances. right down to rhianna. yes her performance was “UP THERE” compared to all the other ones but compared to all the VMAs that sweeps you off your feet, her performance sucked. I think the only good performance was Kanyes. And please mind that every artist on the VMAs I am a fan of, so I am not discriminating the artist because of the taste in my music. I think all in all the directors, coreographers totally lacked in their jobs this year. I agree with Britney getting an award after all her hard work but after 3 awards, the show felt totally set up. After all Kanyes club joints and “no award” please!!! I think his performance was the only sweeping of the feet in the whole VMAs. Kanye is what made me not go crazy turning the TV off pist off about this year. Anyways I hope next year is better and honest!!!

Man, there were so many mistakes.. Mics overloading, video feedback on the screens, messy shots with
floormanagers and what not in the shot, cuts to cameras that were adjusting their shot,
and the (very small) studio was lit super ugly.. It all looked like anything but a worldclass
music awards show..
Did they have a completely new team on it? was there no budget?
