Will Smith Invests Nearly $1 Million In A School For His Kids
May 19, 2008
Will Smith has paid $889,000 to lease an Indian Hills High School in Calabasas, after failing to find a suitable institute for his two young children, Jaden, 9, and Willow, 7. The actor and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith have, until now, been home schooling the pair.
They first announced plans in December saying:
“We started home-schooling our children probably six years ago. We found about eight or nine other parents that home-school, so we put them together. … There’s just very powerful educational concepts that we believe in, and we feel like ‘I want to design the system that revolutionizes public education.’ “
A spokesperson for Smith says of the school – renamed the New Village Academy of Calabasas:
“Will is leasing the campus for three years, plus he’ll cover all costs such as utilities. The academy will be run privately, and will include prekindergarten through grade six.”

I heard it all has to do with scientology

I went to middle school next door to Indian Hills High School. It was a continuation school for all the “problem children” that got kicked out of the high school. I wonder where they have sent these students.

I’m moving to Calabasas! All celebrities should endorse schools in some form. Especially inner city schools such as Detroit where the graduation rate is at 25%.

I too am wondering about the scientology angle. Who exactly are the other parents that Will just happened to find home schooling their kids?

Why is anybody worrying about Scientology? The last time I looked, the citizens of the United States were guaranteed the right to believe whatever religion they chose to believe. The Smiths are good people and their children are lovely — leave them alone! Go mind your own business.

Kathy, do some research on Scientology before you decide to tag it as a “religion”, many countries correctly label it as a cult.

Back in 1975 in San Francisco, a Mr. (Marlo?) Hotchkiss actually created a high school for his daughter. She ended up going to Russia to study at a ballet school there…
There were about 40 kids and 9 teachers, a Mac bus, and a great building.
It was called Mobile School, the whole school visited places for two eight week trips every year.(Mexico City, New York, Baha, Indian Reservations, you get the idea. So many more good things, but no space to list them.
My kids went on a scholarship. I am so thankful to Mr. Hotchkiss. Will Smith is doing good.

I can understand his concern about finding proper schooling for his kids. eduction is pathetic in this country. absolutely pathetic. if i was that rich I might do something similar.

Scientology is not A religion nor A cult. scientology is A corrupt org that takes your money in return for empty earthly wisdom and false hope. WILL WHAT ARE YOU DOING? TAKE YOUR CHILDEREN AND RUN!!!!!!

To the person who asked where all the “problem children” from IHHS will go
They will all be transferred to the nearby Agoura High School, but I believe they will still technically attend IHHS.
