Ashlee Simpson has spoken and says she approves of sis Jessica Simpson‘s 8 month relationship with John Mayer.

“Ashlee loves John,” a Simpson pal tells PEOPLE in its new issue. “She thinks he is great for her. More importantly, Jess is happy.”
Friends say Simpson is relishing this romance, which is low-key compared to her time with ex-husband Nick Lachey.
“When she was with Nick, she was really under her family’s thumb,” says a friend. “This is a relationship that is all hers.”

Great news. I was starting to lose sleep over not knowing if Ashlee and her family approved of Jessica and John being together.  (mmm hmm)
