Wal-Mart Gang Initiation Shooting A Hoax

You may have heard by now about a text message that has apparently been spread around the country this week about a ‘planned shooting at Wal-Mart’ telling women not to go to Wal-Mart because gangs are to ‘kill 3 women as a gang initiation.’
Police are saying this is just a hoax and asking people to not spread the rumor and possible hysteria.
According to Snopes.com,which is a web site that investigates Internet and other urban myths, this Wal-Mart hoax goes back to 2005 and apparently stems from a woman’s report to police about a gang-violence conversation she overheard in a bathroom.

There a lot of “urban legends” circulating on the internet. I always check anything like that with Snopes. They’re very reliable.

i received this text msg but on my land line just now when i got home, and just to let you know i was freaking creepy. Especially cuz i was the only one outta my friends that recieved it, and in Canada where there are alot of Gang Violence shootings right now…..NOT FUNNY!

i got the forward last night. but since i live in a really small town and its all rural, when you go to walmart its usually a big trip because its almost 20 mi away. my cousin goes to a nearby school and said that even if it was a hoax people were gonna go to the walmart and just scare people by using pop guns. so either way people would be kinda paranoid and people that just want to scare people are gonna do it because of the paranoia.

Wow Don’t worry though. In my town in Ohio, this is going around also. Some person is actually playing along with it. Last night, there was one killing. omg this is scary! no need to worry though

I got a text today, im in Vancouver BC, but im feeling better now after looking into this. I have found that this rumour has been going around for a very long time, and so far, there has been no shootings at walmarts. So hopefully, this text really is just a hoax…

I linve in Birmingham, Al. I also received this txt. It is scary to hear something like this even if it is a prank. In saying that, I would not take it lightly because you have idiots that will do it just for the heck of it. All i can say, is be careful.
