US Airways Flight 1549 Goes Down Into Hudson River

 

U.S. Airways flight 1549 from LaGuardia Airport in New York crashed down into the Hudson River this afternoon.  Amazingly none of the 155 passengers on board were seriously hurt.

The Airbus A320 appeared to make a well controlled landing in the water shortly after takeoff from New York bound for Charlotte, N.C.

Spokeswoman Laura Brown, for the Federal Aviation Administration, said the plane appeared to have hit one or more birds on takeoff.  Initial accounts indicated the airliner lost both engines.
