Tommy Lee Jones Launches Lawsuit Against Paramount Pictures
September 8, 2008
Actor Tommy Lee Jones is suing Paramount Pictures, for more than $10 million for the work he did on the film No Country for Old Men.
The Oscar-winner’s lawsuit alleges he was promised “significant box office bonuses” and other forms of compensation depending on the success of the Coen brothers’ film.
And while the film went on to earn more than $160 million worldwide as well as claiming four Academy awards, including best picture, Jones claims he did not receive his promised bonuses.
Representatives for Paramount Pictures have not yet offered any comment, while Jones declined to issue a statement through his publicist Jennifer Allen although she did tell the San Antonio Express-News newspaper:
“The paperwork stands for itself.”
According to the lawsuit filed in Bexar county in San Antonio, Texas, last week, Jones was paid a reduced upfront fee after signing on to play Sheriff Ed Tom Bell in the film.
The suit also claims the actor’s contract included known errors which were not corrected before the film’s completion.
Jones and his representatives are requesting more than $10 million of payments from Paramount subsidiary NM Classics as well as the appointment of an independent financial auditor to review records from the film.
