Tom Cruise Not Returning For Top Gun Sequel
July 23, 2008
Earlier this week, speculation grew that Tom Cruise would appear in a new Top Gun movie sequel, 22 years after the original was first released with his character Maverick returning to Top Gun school as a flight instructor.
But now a representative from Paramount told Access Hollywood there was “no way” Cruise would be returning to the role.
A source tells The Sun: “The idea is Maverick is at the Top Gun school as an instructor – and this time it is he who has to deal with a cocky new female pilot.”
What do you think? Will the movie be the same without the star?

Ahh..Another gag worthy PC movie…
July 23rd, 2008 at 12:49 pm
nobody will touch this guy because Hollywood hates Scientology. and rightly so.
July 23rd, 2008 at 12:59 pm
In my eyes, Tom Cruise is dead. I would not pay a nickel for anything he and his wackos are involved in. I don’t care how good a movie. If he’s in it, the movie doesn’t exist to me.
July 23rd, 2008 at 1:21 pm
I’m just interested in whether the skin on Katie Holmes hands is getting darker
July 23rd, 2008 at 1:44 pm
He probably read the script and wanted nothing to do with a poorly written knockoff that was destined for failure. Tom Cruise may be nuts, but he’s not stupid.
July 23rd, 2008 at 2:02 pm
Would rather see Val Kilmer back as Iceman.
Heck even a fat Val Kilmer would be better than Cruise
July 23rd, 2008 at 2:03 pm
For once Im actually writting one of these.
Who cares what his stupid religion, if he can act who cares what he believes, if everyone went to see movies for that reason. no one would go to see movies…
I dont think they should make a sequel for the fact it was a great movie and it will just get f’d up with a sequel not because of peoples religions
July 23rd, 2008 at 2:39 pm
Don’t call that a religion. Praying to the porcelain god is closer to a religion. This has Karate Kid IV written all over it.
July 23rd, 2008 at 2:43 pm
It’s not a religion, it’s a dangerous mind control cult.
July 23rd, 2008 at 3:45 pm
And who are you to determine what religion is and what is not? Oh, just regular bigot… Take a shower!!! Sorry, bigotry is stinks.
July 23rd, 2008 at 4:13 pm
let’s see how Scientology compares to other religions :
1. worships a space man with extra terrestrial powers
EVERY RELIGION IN THE WORLD.
( I can see the Christians, Muslims and Jews screaming now “But my spaceman isn’t a spaceman – its GOD!)
2. Believes in non physical inhabitants of your body that last after you are dead and secretly controls you somehow.
EVERY RELIGION IN THE WORLD.
( I can see the Christians, Muslims and Jews screaming now “But my soul is real!)
3. takes money from members promising help in return
EVERY RELIGION IN THE WORLD.
( do I really need to comment this!)
conclusion – Every major religion is just as crazy as Scientology.
One thing cool about Scientology though is it’s comparison to Psychotherapy.
In traditional psychotherapy you go to a therapist and lie for 10 years about stuff while paying $50 to $1000/hr until maybe one day you say what really bothers you.
In Scientology you go to a person and talk to them like a therapist about what’s bothering you but you are hooked up to an “E -meter” which like a lie detector can see how much you sweat if you are avoiding the truth so you get the stuff that’s bothering you off your mind right away instead of in 10 yrs.
Furthermore you can do it for free with someone right on the side of Hollywood Boulevard and visit Ripley’s Believe or Not Museum after you are “clear”.
Advantage: Scientology!

[...] There will be no Top Gun sequel – Daily Stab [...]
July 23rd, 2008 at 7:48 pm
The reason this idiotic movie will be destined for failure is the enormously asinine premise…”top gun” female pilot blah blah.
The social engineering involved in this lame story is over the top even by hollywood standards.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:48 am
man with the plan, your analysis has a major flaw: while every other religion is willing to accept your donations, none that I am aware except the CULT of Scientology INSIST and REQUIRE that you pay pre-set amounts just to discover what it is you are supposed to believe in. It costs $385,000 on average just to learn about Thetans, from my understanding. ANY REAL RELIGION will tell you ALL of their beliefs if you are merely willing to listen. Scamentology requires you to pay out the nose before you ever discover ANYTHING about it.
And more to the point, Top Gun sucked ass and the sequel will be even worse. And Tom Cruise is insane, I will never pay to see another movie with him in it.

Chaos Mot5or.
Of course what I was saying was tongue in cheek and not meant to be a defense of Scientology whose practices I know little about except what I see on Hollywood Blvd and the old E meter operators clearing manual I found in an old bookstore and read.
But what you say about them being the only ones who force you to pay first to get your knowledge or salvation- sorry but that’s complete hogwash. Every Church does it. The ones that don’t are in deep financial trouble.
Just this morning I heard on a on a televised crusade with Benny Hinn a guy “preacher” standing up and saying god would give “triple favor” to anyone who pulled old their credit card and gave a “seed” of $1000 . No joke.
He went on to say that they would be a millionaire or some such similar thing and that he had come out of a terrible spot in his own life when he answered someone else call to receive “triple favor” and had himself then pulled out his own credit card to charge $1000.
this whole thing of “give us money first and you will receive” is hardly the most represented by Scientology. I don’t know what they do . They may do that.
but I see it on these televangelist shows almost everyday now and millions of people watch those things and give money.
Now you and I can sit back and say “of course those are ridiculous” but the largest “churches” in the nation are being supported and grown by just those tactics so can we really say that Scientology is even coming close to what the televised”preachers” are doing?
All I am saying is the mainstream religions are and always have been as ridiculous or worse than the claims about Scientology are now. Ted turner who started out in atlanta with channel 17 did a deal with PAt Robertson he said where he broadcast PAt Robertson’s show and literally Pat Robertson would come to his office every day and split the money because that was the deal. Ted turner said that. You may think Robertson is a known swindler or not but the guy led the movement that took over the Republican party in 1980 and helped get Reagan elected (nearly became the nominee himself) and helped get Bush elected from that influx of “evangelicals” into the republican party so it isn’t really fringe at all.
But with Scientology you can get your free emeter reading and then go visit the Ripley’s Beleive it or not museum just down the block.
(and also I must admit there is a certain logic to having someone ask you what is bugging you while you are tied to a lie detector. Sure saves a lot of trouble and time and perhaps psychotherapist’s fees because they can see right through your S%$^. Hell get the guy to admit he is gay on the first session rather than fumble around in a shrinks office for years paying thousands in fees. That’s what I say!
So I say again:
Advantage: Scientology!
(tongue still firmly in cheek)

This had to have started because of the cat out of the bag about the new TV Show “American Top Gun” which uses the real Navy pilots that flew the F-14s,F-5s and A-4s for the movie. They already have the game and backing of Microsoft with filming due to start in fall/winter 2008-09.The legendary F-14 Tomcat pilot and former commander of the Navys Top Gun school Capt Dale “Snort” Snodgrass nexus for the show.
January 8th, 2009 at 5:44 pm
It doesn’t matter who is in this movie. It just won’t be any good. I’m sure all of the flying scenes will be CGI at that alone is enough to ruin it.
July 22nd, 2009 at 8:54 pm
Here’s what would bring in pleny of greenbacks. Tom Cruise returns as top gun instructor and Aston Kuscher plays the son of Goose. He watches his back and helps fight some conflict in the middle east or asia. Somebody should write the script but you read it first here.
December 10th, 2009 at 12:47 pm
Top Gun without Tom Cruise will be like the “Gun” without “Top”, he is the one that put that something special to the film along with super stars.
June 29th, 2010 at 2:11 pm
Top Gun 2. The story of a secretly gay fighter pilot,
who lost his lover 22 years ago in a freak plane accident.
July 1st, 2010 at 2:18 am
I don’t see what the big deal is with people hatting on Tom Cruise just
because he is a scientologist for me I don’t judge his work based on
what he believes in but for whether or not it is of quality for many
of my favorite movies had him in them and he is what made them great
and every one else used to think so to before he came out about his
beliefs so to me they are just being hypocrites. Also a lot of actors
are bizarre and people still pay to see there movies and I think that
it is that craziness that gives them that ability to lose themselves nto
in there roles and give such great performances.

Scientology is the only religion ever created as the result of a bet among friends at a poker game. Hubbard was a fairly well known science fiction writer and the bet was that he couldn’t create a viable religion.
July 1st, 2010 at 6:53 am
What does religion have anything to do with Tom Cruise Returning or Not Returning to Top Gun Sequel.
Ahhh Yess…yet another forum that started out ON TOPIC and end’s up in la la land with more branches than a 200 year oak tree…
Who gives a ****
July 1st, 2010 at 7:27 am
What does Tom Cruise’s interest in Scientology have to do with his ability to make films?
He has been in many hit movies and one of the top paid actors.
And you experts are what…professional actors? I don’t think so.
You guys sound like a bunch of Christian bigots.
July 1st, 2010 at 8:08 am
White Christian bigots…. at that
White is not always right
July 1st, 2010 at 9:13 am
NOOOOOOOO! Please tell me it isn’t true that someone is thinking of making a sequel to Top Gun! That is insane. It will be about as retarded as Karate Kid part 4.
July 1st, 2010 at 9:37 am
Oh My Gosh! One of the best movies in a long time….loved the music and will always love it. Why not have a military movie? I come from a military family, proud of all that serve. Life goes on for some, others just don’t come home. I’d pay the price to see the movie….they haven’t had an origianal idea in a long time at the box office…Top Gun kept you on the edge of your seat, showed life on the ship, flying, and what the guys (and gals) deal with on a daily basis. Come on, give Tom a little slack…he’s a movie star, he does what his job requires, he’s paid his dues.
July 1st, 2010 at 9:56 am
FYI… According to my Christian beliefs, salvation is FREE!!! If any preacher tells you to pay for it, he is a con man and nothing else. These people are the ones who will be judged accordingly. As for Tom Cruise, all i have to say is this GO LES GROSSMAN!!! “IM TALKIN SCORTCHED EARTH MOTHERF*CKER!!!”
July 1st, 2010 at 10:33 am
Cruise better do it! He owes this movie role his whole career! Period. Without top Gun, he would be bottom bellboy!
July 1st, 2010 at 12:29 pm
Are you all serious you wont go see a tc movie over scientology but youll go see a sean penn movie and hes a traitor to the US you hipocrites really suck
July 1st, 2010 at 2:04 pm
He may be crazy but he is still great to look at!
July 1st, 2010 at 2:29 pm
Oh great, another tired Hollywood cliche is going to be jammed down our throats again. The beautiful but self assured and, what’s it this time – “cocky” female jet fighter pilot. Probably spouting cocky “tough guy” cliche’s all the way, making all the guys look like amateurs. Falls for the instructor, saves the day at the end, yadda yadda. I’m sure it’ll appeal to the drooling adolescent 15-24 crowd but I certainly won’t see it and I’ll bet Mr. Cruise saw this thing tanking from a mile away.
July 1st, 2010 at 3:15 pm
Val kilmer IS a god!
“Real Genius” was the greatest movie since “Howard the Duck” you are all swine for not seeing that only Val Kilmer, and not Tug Speedman who controls the flow of creativity in Hollyweird. I know this because I channel Ron Hubbard everynight. He speaks to me in French and I can’t understand a thing he says. He also gives me diarrhea, and I’m getting tired of it.
Stay thirsty my friends.
July 1st, 2010 at 4:01 pm
This guy belongs in an institution for the terminally vain- You’s need to pay me to see him in any film ever again and the price would be what he gets!! Asta la vista tommy!!
July 1st, 2010 at 4:51 pm
Tom cruise should do a sequel but have anthony edwards along with him being a flight teacher also
Wake up hollowood and tom its the right thing to do…I would love to have
a one one conversation with Hollowood Director’s and Tom Cruise himself..What do you have to
lose. It would bring the old and young crowd back in touch with Maverick and Goose!!
July 1st, 2010 at 5:39 pm
Well it did sell alot of motorcycles
July 1st, 2010 at 5:50 pm
themanwiththeplan is a lost soul in which he knows nothing about religion. I fell sorry for people that ignorant. Oh ya, Tom is as lost as he and the movie would stink with or without Tom C.
July 1st, 2010 at 5:55 pm
man with no plan!! lol. I just have to laugh, you are a pathetic little soul. And I think your tongue is firmly placed in someones cheek. get a life and grow up,perhaps read a little more than a webpage.
July 1st, 2010 at 7:37 pm
I luck peanuts!
July 1st, 2010 at 7:38 pm
I think it will be superb!! What a grand idea
July 1st, 2010 at 7:41 pm
I speak for everyone! This man is great! All others who disagree with his choices are only pretending regardless of what they post they are lying! Have a nice day!
July 1st, 2010 at 7:43 pm
A big fat disqusting slob burger…..only at hardys
July 1st, 2010 at 7:56 pm
All I can say (outside of the fact that Mr Cruise is an ass hat) is PLEASE
bring back Val Kilmer and shove him into flight suit or no wait better
yet the volleyball scene with Val in his present form. This sequel has
spoof written all over it.
For pity’s sake Hollywood, find some actual creativity and
ingenuity, these constant remakes and now this piss poor attempt
at bringing back tired old 3D. ITS TIRED AND USED.
July 1st, 2010 at 9:58 pm
Ive never heard (or read) so many idiots express such a stupid opinion. What the hell do you think Christianity is? Look up the definition of a “cult”, you dumb-asses might learn something.
July 1st, 2010 at 10:09 pm
Thank God…I would not spend a penny to see a movie he was in…He lost his appeal way back
July 1st, 2010 at 11:16 pm
Top Gun II: Operation Hubbard Storm
Maverick faces off against alien ghosts coming to earth to give us bad karma.
October 15th, 2010 at 1:53 pm
Tom Cruise needs to go to Clearwater with the other wacko cultist down there,as his movie carrer is OVER.He’s a total wack job
October 15th, 2010 at 4:17 pm
best sequels have all the original actor s in it, for example, god father 1 and 2 verses godfather 3. Saturday night fever VERSES STAYIN ALIVE.
TOP GUN SEQUEL MUST HAVE ORIGIAL ACTORS TO BE JUST AS GOOD AS THE FIRST. ORIGINAL ACTORS MAKE THE DIFFERENCE.
October 22nd, 2010 at 7:44 pm
The movie wouldn’t be the same without some sort of an apperance by Tom, lets face it many people may not like him, but it would be like having a new Leathal weapon, without some sort of apperance by Mel. All I’m saying is if they want the movie to draw the persons who helped make the first the seller it was, they’re going to have to let Tom make some sort of an apperance.
October 29th, 2010 at 12:30 pm
No thanks sounds like PC garbage will just watch the original on Blu-Ray!!!!!!!
December 13th, 2010 at 7:16 pm
Here is how it could work though.. The Movie must be set in the (Future) an attack on the USA by a sqadron of unmarked fighters starts it off and the drone nerds or the modern bomb fighter pilots of Fallon Top gun could not do anything about it..And the female pilot quits and goes home to mommy..More attacks happen from unmarked fighters and more USA fighter pilots get their butts kicked..The president then says “Get on the horn with Tom cruise and Val kilmer” We need Top Gun Pilots..There is no time for training..Top Gun Vets from the past man the jets and kick enemy butt..teaching the current fighter pilots along the way!!
