Tina Fey Vanity Fair January 2009
December 1, 2008
38-year-old writer-comedian Tina Fey is the cover girl for the January 2009 issue of Vanity Fair Magazine.
In the interview she discusses marriage, motherhood, and her career, which is in overdrive right now after her recent stint playing Sarah Palin on SNL and not to mention her hit comedy 30 Rock.
She also reveals how she got her signature facial scar that everyone has always wondered about. She says she was attacked by a stranger in a violent slashing incident when she was five.
Fey’s husband, Jeff Richmond, says in the VF interview:
“It was in, like, the front yard of her house, and somebody who just came up, and she just thought somebody marked her with a pen.”
“That scar was fascinating to me.
“This is somebody who, no matter what it was, has gone through something. And I think it really informs the way she thinks about her life.”
Fey says she doesn’t like to rehash the incident because:
”it’s impossible to talk about it without somehow seemingly exploiting it and glorifying it.”
But, she adds, she’s never felt unattractive because of the scar:
“It’s really almost like I’m kind of able to forget about it, until I was on-camera, and it became a thing of ‘Oh, I guess we should use this side’ or whatever.”
“Everybody’s got a better side.”

I understand that she was slashed by a black boy and that she’s reluctant to discuss it since it may lead to racial acrimony…
She wears it like a rose, she’s beautiful.
