Senator Edward (Ted) Kennedy, D-Mass., collapsed earlier today at a post inauguration luncheon at the Capitol.

Senator Kennedy was diagnosed with brain cancer last May and he has been undergoing treatment. Earlier in the day Kennedy appeared to be doing fine. His family had expressed hopefulness because Kennedy had been doing much better.

Kennedy had been sitting having lunch with John Kerry when he had an apparent seizure. Senator Orin Hatch who is a friend of Kennedy’s, and was with him at the ambulance , told reporters this:

“I’m not a doctor, so I’d hate to characterize it, but it looked like a seizure.”

Obama quickly called for a moment of silence and a prayer was said for Senator Kennedy.

According to MSNC News, Senator Kennedy is feeling much better and is expected to stay the night for observation and to be released tomorrow.
