Surfer Killed By Shark Attack Stuart Beach Florida

February 4, 2010

Yesterday, a surfer was killed at Stuart Beach Florida by a shark attack.

Stephen Howard Schafer, 38, was kite surfing around 4:15 pm south of the beach where he was attacked by a shark yesterday afternoon.

Rhonda Irons, a spokeswoman from Martin County Sheriff’s Office, said that the lifeguard spotted the man floating about a quarter-mile offshore, in an unguarded area of the ocean, through his binoculars.   The lifeguard then directly paddled to Stephen on a rescue board, got him away from the sharks and took him back to Stuart Beach shore.

Rescue workers got to the man as soon as possible and paramedics took him to Martin Memorial Hospital, but unfortunately he died in the hospital.
