Aerosmith’s lead singer Steven Tyler, 61, fell off the stage during Wednesday’s South Dakota concert and suffered minor head, neck and shoulder injuries.
Tyler fell backwards off the stage during the band’s show in Rapid City and was airlifted to a hospital for treatment.
The Associated Press reports, Tyler was dancing around stage trying to keep the crowd entertained at the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally after the sound system failed during the song “Love in an Elevator” when he then stepped backwards and fell off the stage.
Mike Sanborn, spokesman for the Buffalo Chip Campground, said:
“He does a lot of dancing on the stage and he does a lot of stuff with his mic stand. He put his stand down and twirled around and stepped backwards off the stage.”
Security guards rushed in to help him while fans cheered when Tyler got back up.
The AP said it was not known how serious the injuries were. Shortly after the incident occurred, guitarist Joe Perry came out to let the crowd know that Tyler had been airlifted to a hospital and that the show was over.
