Sheryl Crow’s Alcohol Dependency
June 25, 2008
Sheryl Crow relied heavily on alcohol to get her through her early live performances - because she could only take to the stage when she was drunk.
Sheryl Crow admits she relied on alcohol to get through her performances in the begining of her career and says she drank a lot of Jack Daniel’s whiskey to help her handle the stresses of fame.
But the 46-year-old is relieved she eventually kicked the habit. She says:
“I did a lot of drinking early on because it helped me cope with what was happening. But I couldn’t deal with it. I’m small and skinny and just a couple of shots would get me drunk.
“A couple more and I’d be all over the place. I had to knock it on the
head. Now the greatest buzz is performing sober.”
This is true. I went to several Sheryl Crow concerts back in the day and she ALWAYS had beer on stage with her that she would chug in between songs.
Sheryl, who adopted her son Wyatt in May of last year, also revealed motherhood inspired her to write songs for her new album ‘Detours’ saying:
”I was working on my new record when Wyatt was just three weeks old. He had such an influence on me - I could love something freely for the first time. I felt an urgency.”
