In an effort to lower the amount of carbon dioxide emissions created by the production of new phones, the Environmental Media Association and Lionsgate studio have created Public Service Announcements encouraging folks to recycle their used cell phones.

They got Scarlett Johansson and her co-star from the upcoming thriller The Spirit Eva Mendes to appear in the ads with one of them (above) featuring one of the movie’s taglines, “Answer the call!”

The magazine ads will first appear in People on Friday.  I wonder if Eva’s ads will revolve around sex at all?! ;)

And let’s not forget about Scarlett’s recent four-day trip to the African nation of Rwanda, where she visited AIDS clinics.

The 23-year-old, made the journey with (RED), the initiative to help fight AIDS in Africa through business and consumer power.

In a statement Scarlett said:

“It was important for me to come here and see the issues we’re up against firsthand. I came here with an open mind, wanting to listen, understand and learn; I leave with the overwhelming understanding that the small action of making a (RED) choice in your purchases … has an enormous impact on the lives of people in countries like Rwanda.”
