Ryan Seacrest sat down with Matt Lauer this morning for an interview on the “Today Show” where he announced he is joining the NBC family and will help out in the coverage of the 2012 Olympic games.

Ryan said:

“I’ve worked with the E! network for years and NBC Universal and E! are in the same family.  The plan is for me to join the NBC family and continue to have role on the E! network. The first assignment will for me will be with the primetime team at the Olympics on NBC.”

He said he will still host American Idol and when asked where he sees himself in 5 years he said:

“The same height, but hopefully balancing everything that I’ve been able to build and doing a good job at it. I like to be a good conduit to pop culture.”
