Nicholas Hughes Commits Suicide
March 23, 2009

Nicholas Hughes, son of iconic poet Sylvia Plath, has committed suicide by hanging himself at his home in Alaska after battling against depression for some time.
This comes 46 years after is mother committed suicide by gassing herself while he slept.
Hughes, 47, had most recently worked as a professor of fisheries and ocean sciences at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
His sister, Freida Hughes released a statement saying:
“His lifelong fascination with fish and fishing was a strong and shared bond with our father (poet Ted Hughes, many of whose poems were about the natural world). He was a loving brother, a loyal friend to those who knew him and, despite the vagaries that life threw at him, he maintained an almost childlike innocence and enthusiasm for the next project or plan.”
Our hearts are with his family and friends during this sad and difficult time.
