Neil Patrick Harris To Host The 61st Primetime Emmy Awards

CBS announced today that Neil Patrick Harris will indeed host the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards, which will air on September 20, 2009.

Of the hosting honor he says:

“I’m looking forward to the challenge of the show—adding my own voice to it, while honoring the nominees and the entire year in television.

“But which voice to choose? I’m torn between gangsta, foppish Brit, and robot. Really proud of my robot. We’ll see what happens on the night.”

I’m sure he’ll do a great job as the How I Met Your Mother star won critical acclaim as host of this years 2009 Tony and TV Land Awards this past spring.

Last year the Emmys were hosted by five reality TV stars, Tom Bergeron, Jeff Probst, Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Ryan Seacrest, all of which were nominated in the Best Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Show category.  Afterwards, the show received a lot of criticism for that decision.
