Missing Girl Jaycee Lee Dugard Found After 18 Years
August 27, 2009
The 11-year-old California girl that was kidnapped from Lake Tahoe, California 18 years ago, has been found years later.
Jaycee Lee Dugard was abducted on June 10, 1991 by two people outside her South Lake Tahoe home in California.
Police say a woman walked into a police station yesterday claiming to be the missing girl. They also added her kidnapper apparently fathered two children with her and kept all three living in complete isolation in tents and sheds behind his house.
Fred Kollar, El Dorado Undersheriff said Dugard was healthy, but “living in a backyard the last 18 years must take its toll.”
And added: “None of the children had ever been to school, none had been to a doctor, they were kept in complete isolation in this compound, if you will, at the house.”
Bill Clark, the chief assistant district attorney for El Dorado County said of this case:
“It’s a pretty spectacular story just to find someone like that. Someone we assumed was dead.”
Dugard’s alleged kidnappers, Phillip Craig Garrido, 58, who is a registered sex offender in California and has served time in prison for rape and kidnapping, and Nancy Garrido, 54, are now in custody after being arrested on Wednesday.
