Miss California Booed At Miss USA Pageant?
April 19, 2009
Did first runner-up Miss California, Carrie Prejean, get Booed during the Miss USA Pageant? If she did this would be a first.
Listen for yourself in the video above. (sorry for the poor quality)
Perez Hilton, who was one of three judges at the event and it’s no secret is gay, asked if she thought every state should legalizing same-sex marriage.
Prejean stumbled a little but responded:
“We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that’s how I was raised.”
Some in the audience cheered, others booed. I’m having internet issues right now so I can’t play the whole video, but from what I heard it sounded like mostly cheering…let me know what you think…

I think the boos are probably not as audible in the video clip.
Some people booed, some people cheered.
It’s unfortunate she represents the state of California.

I would like to see the votes and who voted for whom. California lost the title due to her idiotic answer. Here is a better one: I think that same sex couples deserve the same rights as straight couples but the issue that gays do not seem to understand is that this is a religious issue that cannot easily be solved. Why not ask for the same rights and call the marriage something else? I do not think anyone would be opposed to that. i for one, would welcome such an initiative-who am I to deny two people who love each other the sam rights i have?
But no, she gave her opinion, to a gay man with a VOTE–bad idea.
that said, she was not my favorite. My favorite won.
April 20th, 2009 at 8:29 am
She said she thinks it’s great that Americas can choose one
or the other for themselves and then clarified her views.
That should be an acceptable answer. She might have added
how she would handle this issue as Miss USA. The country
is divided on this issue. It shouldn’t be a litmus test
for the Miss USA position.
April 20th, 2009 at 10:36 am
Miss California’s answer to the question was met with applause, not boo’s, because her answer is the way the majority of the nation feels. Look at Proposition 8, it was put to a vote, it was voted against. The gay community didn’t like the outcome so they want more legal action. It’s ashame when the answer isn’t the way we like it. I wasn’t a Miss California fan, but I am now.
April 20th, 2009 at 11:18 am
Nice.. Isn’t it funny how to be “against” gay marriage is controversial. Obviously this is not natural. you cannot reproduce. Most gays had some sort of childhood problem yet it is to ostracize the majority as if they are immoral and are depriving rights. What about people who like sex with animals?? Notice how it is gays that are the ones to use commie tactics and of coarse point the finger as if it were opposite.
April 20th, 2009 at 1:40 pm
I believe in the constitution it says “all men are created equal” and “seperation of church and state” This means that we should all have the same rights. This is a basic principal in the constitution. And religion should have no say in legal rights. Look at it this way. There are churches and religiions that support all sorts of things including satanism. What makes anyone think that religion should be part of the rule making process. If it were it could be satanism making the rules. I think in the long run that justice will prevail and the gay people will recieve equal rights and it is right for it to be so. Obvioulsly since 4 states have afforded gay marriage then the majority of the people in those states agree with it. Not every state is against equality. California will come around some day. It just takes patience. And as for miss california losing. 1/3 of the vote was gay. If you want to win a position that is representative of all America then you have to at least be diplomatic in your responses. She wasn’t smart enough to figure that out so she lost. I dont think anyone expected her to answer in support. I didn’t but with a little grace and thought she could have answered and still had a chance!
April 20th, 2009 at 2:33 pm
It’s obvious that the gay community is full of hate. Nothing new.
April 20th, 2009 at 2:55 pm
How sad that a person is treated badly for answering a question….She answered truthfully as to her own beliefs. I may feel that marrige is only proper between a man and women. That is HOW I was brought up. But I believe that others should have the right to marry IF they want. GOD will be the one who judges them…NOT ME.
April 20th, 2009 at 3:08 pm
I guess you’re not allowed to be Miss USA if you’re a Christian. I hope Miss California sues since she only lost due to Hilton’s anti-Christian bigotry.
April 20th, 2009 at 3:23 pm
She is an idiot. She can certainly express herself in a more sensitive way without lying about her faith. And her wording is also very bad. What is “opposite marriage”? Overall, she is a stupid blonde.
April 20th, 2009 at 5:54 pm
She proves that blondes are dumb anyways!
Why not just give a neutral answer that does not compromise her
believes????
Its so sad she is in America representing California…….. but still
lack in civic knowledge to that level.
Gay issue & rights are sensitive topic & must be handled tactfully.
For all you ppl that say Miss California is right bcoz it says so in
the bible….OMG…wake up….Christianity is JUST one of the religion
in the WORLD…..morons…..You can try saying bcoz it says so in all
major religions….
Its 2009…..America is in billion dollar debt….how shallow can Ameraican be? Wake up!
April 20th, 2009 at 6:23 pm
No, what is sad is the fact that in AMERICA, she was persecuted for speaking from her heart. I am so sick of the liberal media. We’re SUPPOSED to be ok with gays and lesbians and athiests, but why are they not returning the favor? It’s ridiculous that Christians can’t say anything, but liberals think it’s ok to PUSH their beliefs on us. If it’s ok for one group to voice their opinions and beliefs, then it should be ok for all groups. I’m extremely proud of Miss California for being truthful and not just saying what she thought the MINORITY would want to hear. And what credentials does Perez have that allow him to even be a judge?
April 20th, 2009 at 8:37 pm
Good job Miss California. The country is not divided on this issue a few states are. Just a reminder to the real idiots, there are 50 states. Miis Calornia should not be ridiculed for her beliefs. You should not tell her what to believe, She’s on God’s side.
April 20th, 2009 at 9:02 pm
Great answer!! she stood up for what she believes. She has the same rights as anyone else.
It’s time people stood up for what they believe
April 20th, 2009 at 10:04 pm
Miss Carrie Prejean was asked by Mr. Perez Hilton, “DO YOU THINK…?” In Miss California’s response, she THREE TIMES stated in answering the question “I THINK…”. Perez did not like the response given to him because what “SHE THINKS” differs from what “HE THINKS.” Remember the quote, “Don’t ask, don’t tell?” If Perez Hilton did not want to know what Carrie “thinks,” then he should not have asked. I applaud Miss California’s honesty. Pageant contestants should not give “Tell ‘em what they WANT TO HEAR” responses. They should be forthright and honest in their responses. Miss California was asked what “SHE THINKS,” and she should not be penalized for honestly answering the question. Questions such as the question by Judge Hilton do not belong in pageants, NOR DO JUDGES like Perez Hilton. He has no suitable qualifications to serve as any pageant judge. He used the pageant for his own interests and platform, as demonstrated by the question he chose to ask a pageant contestant. The question was inappropriate. Perez Hilton was also an inappropriate judge. His facial expression, as shown on television after Carrie’s response, demonstrated just how inappropriate a judge he was. He did not like Carrie’s response, and he let it be known at the time. Shame, too, on any member of the audience who would “boo” a contestant for her honest answer. After all, she was asked what SHE THOUGHT. She also explained it was how “she was brought up.” She also stated she was not meaning to insult anyone else by her personal belief. It is a shame Carrie’s honesty is presumed to have cost her the title. Lesson learned, future pageant contestants…you are supposed to lie and “tell ‘em what they want to hear.” It isn’t at all about what “YOU THINK.” It is about telling them what you think they think! Now, that’s INTEGRITY, America! (And these days, we have so much of it!)
April 20th, 2009 at 10:50 pm
I am proud of her for standing up for those of us who do believe that
marriage should be between a man & a woman. The media wants to snuff
out the voices of anyone who doesnt think he same as they do. Well bravo
Miss California!!!!! Im glad! For those others out there who didnt like
her answer SO WHAT! They didnt ask you! They asked her & she did great.
We are still entitled to our opins & guess what yours are not the only
opinions out there. DEAL WITH IT!!!
April 20th, 2009 at 11:15 pm
I like how everyone talks about how she should be shown respect for
her honest answer, etc. Yes, she should. She was honest and true to
herself, and that’s great. But, as Perez Hilton said later in a video,
she may have been true to herself, but her true self would not meet the
standards of what it means to be Miss USA. Miss USA is a woman who
promotes uniting opposing parties in the name of peace rather than
division among them.
If we’re all supposed to understand one another’s beliefs, then perhaps
those talking about God as if it is something all people believe in
ought to keep themselves in check. Also, not everyone answers to the same God
that Christians believe in and, therefore, do not agree that everything
that is promoted as normal or moral among the Christian community is the
be all to end all, ultimate truth.
April 21st, 2009 at 9:51 am
Christians will always be persecuted. It says this in the bible. The Gay judge felt condemned. He knows his ways are wrong. That is why gays are so angry. This country was founded by Christians. That is why it has been so great. If we are to stay a great nation, we need to be rooted in Jesus Christ. There is no other way. Our flesh will die and one day we will reap what we have sown. Congrats to Miss California. Now is the time for all Christians to make a stand for what we believe!
April 21st, 2009 at 11:14 am
The Hilton guy (?) boiled over with his own opinion and unfairly accused Miss California of being stupid
to state HER honest opinion. It was a “What do YOU think?” question, not a STATE question. Hilton
behaved like an ass and did nothing positive for the gay community!
April 21st, 2009 at 11:42 am
Hmmm… beauty contests and christianity… women strutting around in
skimpy clothing and suggestive poses. Maybe she was in the wrong
contest. And where was the contest held?
April 21st, 2009 at 12:40 pm
I think she made the right decision, regardless of whether anyone else agrees with her. It is more important to stay true to your beliefs than to sell out because you are afraid of what other people will think. No crown is worth losing your self respect. I think it is obvious Perez Hilton is the more hateful one in this situation.
April 21st, 2009 at 1:04 pm
Such a shame that the gay community will step to any level to accomplish their devant desires the the public they have infected with their due justice, AIDS wasn’t enough for them. Now they will force the normal public to accept their sexual deviance sicknesses on to us all, sighhhh
perez hilton’s actions were nothing less than constitutional rights violations, he effectivly denied Miss Ca her freedom of speach & belliefs. What else would you deny the rest of this nation so that we bend over and accept the deviant sexual behavior that has caused so much greif? AIDS/HIV is a gay poison brought on by their sexual behavior and mentality… Why in the world would a rational person want that in their lives? Your sick and wrong perez hilton and all ther rest of your type! Go ahead call me a racist after what you did at the pagent what does that make you? Your sick…
April 21st, 2009 at 2:05 pm
It is absolutely appalling how many self-righteous
so-called Christians there are in good old USA. First,
one vote out of 3 votes never has, and still does
NOT, represent the majority.
Secondly, since when does the Church determine how the
State (country) should be run? My family has never
been “church people.” I still am finding one good
reason why I should attend Church. So far, I have met
more hypocrites than genuine loving people among the
Christians I have encountered in my 59 years.
April 21st, 2009 at 2:24 pm
He asked for an answer and he got it. That was the rules of the pagent… What did she do wrong?? Ohhh she gave the WRONG opinion…..I guess it does not matter that most of America feels similar or the same as she does ie: Prop 8 in HER OWN state!!! I am so proud of her for standing up for what she believes in- Good for her!! More people should do the same- in as nice a way as she did: without name calling, only when asked and even stressed she did not want to offend anyone but she was asked her opinion and she gave it….but I see that gets forgotten too……
April 21st, 2009 at 3:41 pm
You can’t claim to be a true Christian if you believe it’s ok to be gay. This is what she is saying…. but she does not believe in gay marriage… Huh!!! the bible does not say it’s ok to be gay…… Also a true Christian would not be part of the Miss america pageant, which is basically judged on how sexual you are, meaning the are judged on how they look in a bikini and evening gown. True christians do not judge each other on appearance
April 21st, 2009 at 5:14 pm
Well Abraham had sex with both his virgin daughters after he said was an overnight drunk because his daughters thought he was Elvis Presley. David killed a poor little guy because he thought his wife was just too hot for him. Solomon loved a thousand fornicating women so much God hated him. They all had opinions we are forced to live by.
April 21st, 2009 at 5:22 pm
How can an almost nude streaking female have a moral opinion about anything and why can she not face ridicule? Silliness and full of demonstrated lying streaking behavior while the dudes are getting hard on, a crime of fornication, and according to Jesus if you break on law you break them all.
April 21st, 2009 at 5:27 pm
He that thinketh about sex in his mind is the same who has sex Jesus said, so… She is a sinner promoting fornication and adultery. A sinner. A wicked woman. For he that breaketh one of the laws Jesus said, breaks all of the laws and will suffer the same judgement.
April 21st, 2009 at 8:43 pm
Are you guys blind or something? Miss California was not penalized for her answer.
Although I don’t agree with her. Same sex marriage should be allowed to make the
constitution true to what it believes in. Same marriage didn’t have to have
done in church or any sacriligious thing but as only for legal rights and civil
rights to choose who they wanna get married to. Miss California almost won the
contest. If Perez Hilton scored her ZERO she would not have reach as high as
1st runner up.
April 21st, 2009 at 9:33 pm
I was glad to see Miss California give an answer that she believed in her heart and not some answer that this jackass wanted to hear. Why would they have a judge like that? He is a total insult to other gay men. Rob
April 21st, 2009 at 9:47 pm
Perez Hilton is a worm. And anyone that supports his dishonesty and vile spirt; reflects on them.
April 21st, 2009 at 11:54 pm
First of all, who in their right mind would pick a Homosexual male to judge and beauty pagent? This in itself is stupid. Having said that, did the Homo judge expect her to answer the way he wanted her to answer? To her credit, she gave her opinion. And then for Mr. Homo to get on his blog and call her a stupid bitch says a lot for his believe in our so called freedom of speech. If there was a “Beauty Pagent” for Mr. USA Homosexual, then thats where he should be judging, not, absolutly not, in a contest judging women.

To Gene (#6) - -
<>.
Let me set you straight (pardon the pun):
1. The Constitution DOES say that “all men are created equal”.
2. The Constitution does NOT say “separation of church and state”. That’s a fallacy that has been raging for decades! Nowhere in the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, OR the Bill of Rights does any derivation of the verb “separate” ever appear except where it is referring to the separation of powers (i.e. the Executive, Legislative and Judiciary branches of government).
People throw around the phrase “separation of church and state” as if it was sacrosanct. IT AIN’T EVEN CONSTITUTIONAL! Back in the revolutionary age when the Episcopalians were harassing and disrespecting the Baptists, the Baptists complained to Thomas Jefferson that they were worried that the Episcopal Church, then a dominant denomination, would become the official denomination… or religion… of the nation. He wrote back, telling them not to worry, that a “wall of separation” exists between the church and the state. With all due respect to Jefferson, this was one man’s letter, which was not held to the scrutiny of the Continental Congress.
Sometimes people mention the first amendment when talking about separation of church and state. What the first amendment says in this regard is this: Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press…
Carrie Prejean rights to freedom of speech and freedom of religion are protected by the Constitution of the United States… at least… she’s protected from CONGRESS. Apparently it’s open season for her according to the likes of Perez Hilton.
April 22nd, 2009 at 1:42 am
HAHA i loved the part where she said ” in this country we can CHOOSE
gay marriage or opposite marriage” UMMM …UMMM….what? There is no
gay marriage so how can someone choose it? Also what is opposite
marriage? This issue is always a hot topic in our country which is a
good thing. How you express your opinion about this hot topic is what
really matters. Just saying “the bible says…” is not gonna work!
Not everyone believes in the bible and NO ONE lives by the bible! It
is not possible! I feel all people should have equal rights. There are
some people who are saying gay people are and always will be the
minority and should not be given their “equal rights” because it does
not represent the majority. UMMM UMMM just like black people were
suppose to back down from gettin equal rights cuz they were the
minority? What about women’s rights? How is gay rights any different?
Its all just a big joke what the big deal is if 2 men or 2 women
wanna get married. What does it matter to YOU? I love the people who
say “marriage is for making babies” LOL ohhhh really? Come on now!
Anyways she gave a bad answer. NOT because she stated her opinion but
the WAY she stated her opinion was obviously not good!
April 22nd, 2009 at 6:44 am
Jeremy…I’m not going to do the LOL and the HA HA thing…just going to articulate my point as best I can. But when she said you can choose, she meant that as Americans we can vote…and we DID vote. Actually several states have voted about the issue. And as Americans we are choosing traditional views about marriage. And if she wants to base her views on the Bible, then she can choose to do that…more power to her. You really should be more tolerant of other people’s beliefs you know.
And I agree, there are mostly cheers in there. Why should we be surprised. Most Americans are for traditional marriage.
April 22nd, 2009 at 5:42 pm
What religious bigots need to realize is that this is a human right’s
issue. Two people that love each other and can consent to marriage
should have every legal right regardless of their sexuality and gender.
We can not allow and we should not allow our beliefs to deprive others
of basic human rights. For the bigot that asked brought up animals…
when an animal can stand at the alter and say I do and KNOWINGLY make a
life long commitment then that animal and their partner should be able
to be married.
That being said, notice how Miss California NEVER answered the question.
It might seem like she did because she gave her personal opinion on gay
marriage but that wasn’t the question. In pageants, you get bad scores for
never answering the actual question which was do you think that states shoul
legalize gay marriage not what is your opinion on gay marriage. There was
never a yes they should or no they shouldn’t in the entire answer.
April 23rd, 2009 at 5:00 pm
If your a Christian you know these beauty pageants are wrong. Her comment though was right on. Read Leviticus 18:22 and Romans 1:22, 26, and 27. If you fear God, no matter how much you love an individual you should love God more and fear Him. I’m proud of Carrie for answering so honestly. We are to love one another and keep Gods commandments. We are not to judge for Jesus is our Judge, but we know right from wrong just by reading God’s word.
One comment mentioned hypocrites in church. Again, we all sin and no one is perfect that is why we continue to go to church and worship and learn. Jesus in the end will judge us indivually and decide whether we will live eternally with Him in Heaven or suffer in Hell.
April 23rd, 2009 at 5:58 pm
I’am sure she wanted the Miss USA crown and knew her Q/A may caused it. Any young women would love to be crowned Miss USA. What I’am very proud about her is, she stood her gound. She acknowledged her faith and belief!
At the end, she decited - she rather have Jesus than riches and fame. That’s a winner!!! God bless
you Miss Carrie. You make lots of Christan mothers and dauthers, of course dad too be very proud!!
April 25th, 2009 at 12:27 pm
I applaud Miss California. Her response was true, apppropriate and share by me and the majority of Americans.
