Meredith Baxter Reveals She Is A Lesbian On The Today Show

Meredith Baxter, aka Elyse Keaton everyone’s favorite mom from the hit ’80s sitcom Family Ties, sat down with The Today Show’s Matt Lauer to reveal that she is a lesbian.

She told Matt that after three marriages (that resulted in five children), she realized that she is a lesbian, explaining that she lives a “very out” life in Los Angeles, is happily committed to Nancy, whom she’s been dating the last 4 years, and recently vacationed on a cruise with 1,200 lesbians.

Why the sudden announcement?  A tabloid was about to break the story that she is gay, and she wanted to tell it in her “own words.”

The 62-year-old tells Matt:

 ”I’m a lesbian and it was later in life recognization.  Some people would say, well, you’re living a lie and, you know, the truth is – not at all. This has only been the past 7 years,” she added. “I understand why I had the issues I had earlier in my life. I had difficulty connecting with men.”
