Marvel Announces ‘Runaways’ Will Hit The Big Screen
May 24, 2008

Marvel has announced ‘Runaways’ as the latest comic book to headed to the big-screen, putting it on the slate with flicks like Captain America, Iron Man 2 and Ant Man to hit sometime between now and 2011.
Series co-creator Brian K. Vaughan and artist Adrian Alphona have agreed to write the film - about a group of teens who run away after discovering they are the offspring of supervillains. The runaways then discover their own superpowers and proceed to challenge their parents in an attempt to correct the past.
‘Runaways’ is still in the early stages of development and, as a result, a shooting date is yet to be confirmed.
As opposed to other Marvel characters getting the silver screen treatment, such as the Hulk and Spider-Man — who have been around since the 1960s and are pop-culture fixtures — the heroes in “Runaways” are relatively new, with the comic series launching in 2002.
The title was critically praised for its honest portrayal of teens and their issues and in 2006 won a Harvey Award for best series.
