28-year-old Gold medal skier Lindsey Vonn was injured after suffering a serious crash on opening day of Alpine World Championships in Austria on Tuesday.

Vonn’s rep, who still did not know the extent of Vonn’s injuries, released a statement saying::

“Lindsey was involved in a crash in today’s World Championship Super G race in Schladming, Austria. She is currently being evaluated and we will provide an update when it becomes available.”

Shortly after the incident occured, the Alpine Press Tweeted:

“Doctor on hill with @linseyvonn suspects tibial plateau fracture. We’ll await official diagnosis following X-rays and MRI.”

According to NBC News Vonn lost her ski after a tough landing and slid off course into a gate before she came to a stop.

According to the United States ski team’s medical director, Kyle Wilkens, Vonn tore the anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament in her right knee and sustained a tibial fracture. The team announced she would miss the remainder of this season but was expected to return to racing for the 2013-14 World Cup season, which begins in October, and the 2014 Winter Games.
