Letterman’s Extortionist Pleads Guilty To Attempted Grand Larceny In The Second Degree
March 9, 2010

David Letterman’s extortionist, Robert Halderman, just plead guilty to one count of attempted grand larceny in the second degree and was sentenced to 6 months in jail, 5 years probation and 1,000 hours of community service.
To refresh your memory, in late September 2009 Letterman said he received a package from someone claiming to have info about sexual escapades between Letterman and a few female employees on his staff and insisting he pay $2 million to keep the info secret.
Under the terms of the deal that went on today in the courthouse, Halderman will serve 500 hours of community service in New York and the rest in Connecticut.
In the courtroom, Halderman called what he did a “thinly veiled threat” and said:
“I have great remorse and sincerely apologize to David Letterman and Stephanie Birkitt. I attempted to extort $2 million from David Letterman.”
