A fter Kylie Jenner shared an Instagram photo of herself wearing cornrow braids, she was quickly slammed as racist by some followers and ‘Hunger Games’ star Amandla took aim at her in particular, writing:
”When u appropriate black features and culture but fail to use ur position of power to help black Americans by directing attention towards ur wigs instead of police brutality or racism #whitegirlsdoitbetter (sic)”.
Kylie responded at the time by simply saying:
”@amandlastenberg Mad if I don’t, Mad if I do…. Go hang w Jaden or something (sic).”
Justin Bieber then decided to jump in on Kylie’s side of the argument, defending her by saying that equality doesn’t begin through Instagram bullying and he commented that taking aim at a 17-year-old for a hairstyle was just not fair. He explained that he understands Kylie is under so much pressure in the spotlight:
”Guys leave her alone, were all trying to figure it out and she happens to be under a microscope! I’m the first to know this. But saying she’s being racist because she wants her hair in braids is ridiculous. lets focus on the bigger picture and instead of fighting over something stupid lets do something about equality, but it doesn’t start here blasting a 17 year old kid for wearing braids smh [shaking my head] (sic)”
