Jude Law is now the one reportedly negotiating a deal to join Robert Downey Jr. and play Watson in Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures Sherlock Holmes, the drama that Guy Ritchie is directing, not to be confused with Will Ferrell and Sacha Baron Cohen’s comedy version.

Joel Silver, Lionel Wigram, Susan Downey and Dan Lin are producing.

Production is set to begin early next month in London.

The film will incorporate the classic tales written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, as well as the comic book Sherlock Holmes. Studio is still casting some of the principal roles, including the villain, Blackwood.

Rumors first started with Russell Crowe to be playing Dr. Watson then just last week Colin Farrell was said to be in talks to play Holmes sidekick.  I guess we’ll find out for sure when they start next month.

Very cool. I like the idea of RDJ and Jude in this. I’ve read that Russell Crowe might also be taking another role in it…if so, even better.
