Jermaine Jackson, Michael Jackson’s brother, performed what he says was Michael’s favorite song, ‘Smile.’
So sweet. He did an amazing job making it through. He did get a little choked up a few times. It had to have been so hard..

Light up your face with “sadness”, high every trace of “gladness”.
I don’t think so Jermaine. But beautiful anyway.

On that day of bittersweet mixed emotions, I felt my juxtaposition was appropriate.

I’m really sorry. This song was sung at my dad’s funeral recently, because he had a wonderful smile and even though very ill, still managed to maintain his sense of humour to the end. So the song was very close to my heart. It was sung at Michael’s funeral beautifully, you have a wonderful voice. I am sorry for your (and our) loss.

This was a truly amazing performance and a wonderful tribute to a lost brother. The words of the song are so inspirational for anyone who has experienced a profound loss. I think it also provided a poignant reminder of what an incredibly talented family the Jackson’s are and why losing Michael meant so much to us all. Jermaine shared his pain through his beautiful voice with the world in the most intimate way. We were all crying with him. God Bless and rest in peace.
