Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson sang the national Anthem at the Super Bowl on Sunday. See the video below.

This big event marked her first performance since the tragic incident where her mother, brother and nephew were brutally murdered.

Hudson lip-synched during the performance after the show’s producer, Ricky Minor, urged her to sing accompanied by the recording to assure nothing went wrong. (Faith Hill also lip-synche at the event)

He tells Usmagazine.com:

“This was such an important performance, because it’s the first time everyone has seen Jennifer. But she’s in such a great place, with such great spirits, and time can heal her wounds. She’s on fire right now and totally grounded.

“That’s the right way to do it. There’s too many variables to go live. I would never recommend any artist go live, because the slightest glitch would devastate the performance.”

When Hudson stepped off the stage, she asked him, “How did I do?” He said “I told her, ‘Touchdown!’ She’s just getting so much love.”

This is the first of many appearances we will be seeing of Jennifer.  Before the Image Awards, of which her album received six nominations and her role in The Secret Life of Bees garnered two, she’ll play at the 2009 MusiCares Person of the Year Gala on Friday and hit up the Grammy Awards on Sunday  where she’s up for R&B Album of the Year and three other awards.

Her new music video, “If This Isn’t Love,” is set to debut the week of Feb. 9.
