Gunman Holding Principle Hostage At Pine Plains Stissing Mountain High School

November 10, 2009

Pine Plains Town Supervisor Gregg Pulver says a gunman at an upstate New York high school is holding the principal hostage.

Pulver adds that students at Stissing Mountain High School are safe although the school remains on lockdown. Pulver has told CNN that the police are in contact with the gunman and that the gunman is an adult, not a student.

UPDATE: The AP says the gunman has surrendered.

The AP quotes an unidentified state government official as saying the gunman was a former student.  The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly, says the gunman surrendered about 10 a.m. ET.

Town Supervisor Gregg Pulver says the gunman is a man in his 40s. He says no shots were fired.
