Supermodel and newlywed Gisele Bundchen, 28, is the cover girl for the April issue of Harper’s Bazaar magazine.  She opens up about a lot of things during her interview.  Below are some highlights:

She’s a stepmother to Tom Brady’s son, 18-month-old John Edward Thomas, but she says she is eager for more children:

“I want to have a big family.  It’s all good in that part of my life. It’s one part of my life that I’m learning about every day. I’ve been challenged a lot by it, but it’s the most rewarding part.”

“I love kids.  It’s amazing that I have the opportunity to hang out with my stepson all the time.”

Of John Edward Thomas she says:

“He is so kind.  He loves blueberries, and every now and then my dog, Vida, tries to get some food from him. He is so nice that he will give her the blueberries first. He is so cute and has such a sweet demeanor.”

Of Tom she says:

“Tom is a good guy.  He has a very pure heart. He’s very naive, almost like a child. That is my favorite quality about him. One thing that I thought was so amazing when I first met him is that he is innocent. He sees the world with [rose] colored glasses.”

Of Brady’s innocence she adds:

“It’s beautiful. But I think that is rare. I love that about him. No one else sees that. He’s very strong and focused in his job, but he’s so sensitive. It’s amazing.”

But she admits there was a time five or six years ago when she treated her body like it was her “worst enemy”:

“I was drinking a lot of red wine, smoking a pack and a half of cigarettes a day, and eating cheeseburgers all day. I was treating my body, which is my temple and my best friend, as my worst enemy.I was almost punishing myself. I was so tired. I was working so much and I was numb.”

Gisele said she got out of her slump by taking six months off and spending some time in her home country of Brazil:

“If you are happy, you can give happiness.  If you don’t love yourself and if you are unhappy with yourself, you can’t give anything else but that.”

Her issue of Harper’s Bazaar hits stands  March 24.
