Frances Reid (Alice Horton From Days Of Our Lives ) Has Passed Away
February 4, 2010

Soap star Frances Reid, probably best known as Alice Horton on Days of Our Lives has passed away at the age of 95.
Reid played the great Alice Horton for 44 years on DOOL. She was the last original cast member of the soap opera.
Reid started her career with a small role in the movie Man-Proof (1938), before landing a string of jobs on Broadway.
She was very reluctant to accept the part of Alice on Days of our Lives after an exhausting run on another soap opera – Portia Faces Life in 1954.
The role of Alice made her a household name after the series’ premiere in November 1965, and eventually earned her a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Daytime Emmys in 2004.
Reid retired a few years ago making her final appearance on Days of our Lives on December 26, 2007.
Her “Days of our Lives” co-stars Alison Sweeney (Sami Brady) and Nadia Bjorlin (Chloe Horton) have both posted on their official Twitter accounts confirming the sad news.
Rest in peace Frances Reid (Alice Horton). She was a great lady whom I feel honored to have known..the heart and soul of Days of our Lives.
While Alison writes:
I’m so sad to hear the news about Frances Reid. She was a truly talented actress & and we are all lucky & proud to have known her. RIP
I am so sad about this. I watched this show ever since I was a little girl while my mom always had it on. I continued to watch it after living on my own, although I haven’t in the last few years. Alice was so sweet on that show!
Our hearts are with her friends and family during this difficult time.

I have been a great fan of Ms. Reid’s since DOOL premiered during my Senior
year in High School. It as not difficult to be in awe of her graciousness,
talent and much more. My children grew up watching “Gram” and so has my 10
year old granddaughter, who now calls me “Gram”. All those years ago, I
decided that when I became a grandmother I did not want to be a “Nana” or
a “Mimi” but a “Gram” and not just in name only. Ms. Reid had a great,
positive influence on my life as a person, a parent and a grandmother. I
dearly miss her. Ms. Reid reminds me of something I read not long ago…
“When you lose someone you love, the love becomes and memory and the memory
becomes a treasure.” Alice, you and Tom are together again! Rest in peace
and love.
