Former Philadelphia Eagles Defensive Coordinator Jim Johnson Has Died
July 28, 2009
The Philadelphia Eagles have announced that their former defensive coordinator Jim Johnson passed away on Tuesday afternoon at the age of 68.
Johnson had been on a leave of absence from the team to undergo cancer treatments.
Throughout his 22 years as an assistant coach Johnson was known as one of the NFL’s top defensive minds. He joined the staff of Eagles Coach Andy Reid in January 1999.
In recent months his health deteriorated and he had to coaching from a motorized cart. In the off season The Eagles announced that he would be taking a leave of absence and named secondary coach Sean McDermott as their defensive coordinator.
Johnson is survived by his wife Vicky, his two children and four grandchildren.
Our hearts are with his friends and family during this difficult time.
