Ewan McGregor Would Love to Star in ‘Trainspotting’ Sequel

Trainspotting, released in 1996, was one of Ewan's earliest roles and the actor has said he'd love to appear in a sequel.

Directed by Danny Boyle and released almost 20 years ago, Trainspotting has become a cult classic now and although some may say these great films shouldn’t be messed with by producing sequels, the Scottish actor has said he would agree to be in the film if the chance came his way. He commented:

”I would be up for it, I’ve said that to Danny. I haven’t seen any script yet or anything and I don’t know if there is one. There is a big idea that it might happen but I don’t know that it is happening, I really don’t.”

Although he previously said he wouldn’t consider appearing in a potential sequel, Ewan reveals he has changed his mind about it and would now love to be in the film should it go ahead:

”I just think I’ve changed my opinion about it. We’ve all moved on and there’s a lot of water under the bridge. I miss working with Danny. I did some of my best work with him and he is, to date, one my favourite directors I’ve ever worked with because he’s such a brilliant director.”

He added that it would be amazing to make the sequel after 20 years:

“I think it might be extraordinary to see a sequel 20 years after the original.”

Although he no longer lives in Scotland, Ewan says he loves to return to work there and has luckily been able to on several occasions:

“I’ve been very fortunate to come back and make four or five movies in Scotland since I left. I loved that. I’m sure there will be one in the future, it just depends when it comes. I don’t go out to look for it necessarily but usually one finds me in the end. I hope so because I do enjoy working here a lot.”
