Ellen DeGeneres Speaks About Prop 8 And Gay Marriage Ban In California

While much of Hollywood celebrated Barack Obama’s big win yesterday, the news wasn’t so good for Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi as well as many others who took advantage of same-sex marriage becoming legal just months ago, all of whose marriages may be annulled just months after their big celebration.
Californians voted yesterday in a referendum to ban same-sex marriage just months after it was legalized by the state Supreme Court in May.
The law, called Proposition 8, was approved by 52.1 per cent of voters, compared with 47.9 per cent who voted against.
Ellen DeGeneres, of course is speaking out about this and says she is “saddened beyond belief” by the passage of a constitutional amendment in California banning gay marriage.
The talk show host said in a statement Wednesday to The Associated Press that she, “like millions of Americans, felt like we had taken a giant step toward equality” by electing Barack Obama as president.
DeGeneres says that with the passage of California’s Proposition 8, “we took a giant step away.”
DeGeneres wed actress Portia de Rossi in August, following a May Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage in California.
She contributed $100,000 to fight the amendment on Tuesday’s ballot.
DeGeneres asserts she will “continue to speak out for equality for all of us.”

this is so stupid how can people do that..
they should at least let people live their own life’s how they want.
im pro-gay marriage (even thought im straight). everyone here in the united states have
the right to be equal but at the same time they go ahead and pull stupid stunts and ruin
peoples lifes.. i say people get over your drama and let the gay community be happy by getting married.
im a teenager and to me equal rights plays a big role in this and it seems that the state as the government
it self is just being stupid and outrageously retarded… my heart goes out to everyone that has suffered over
this stupid law..

I think gay people should be treated like the scum they are, and put down. They are a stain upon the They should not be given equal rights,a nd should be shunned by the rest of society for the ffilhy sewage that they are. Banning gay marraige was right.

okay i think this is so dumb!! im not racist or antthing! but like
god! the states elected a BLACK pres. and they can’ty allow same-sex
marriages? what is up with that! like honestly.. the states were once
a place that had the biggest slave trading in the world! and now look
they have a BLACK pres. Everyone in the world got over the whole
racist thing. (well most people). Now-a-days doesnt matter what
color you are we are all equal right? Well why cant that be for people
who are gay? its just not right!! like some on people!! i would
like to know what makes gay people different from all of us!
NOTHING! nothing what s9o ever makes them different! they wake up
and go to work every morning the the rest of us! they eat drink sleep
just like the rest of us!! they put on there pants one leg at a time
like everyone ele in this world!! i think Obama is really messed up!
like he out of all people who know what it feels like to ” feel like
he is not an equal cuz of his skin color” but look at where he is now!
he has the chance to do something about inequality but he’s not
though all this voters that are white and gay voted for him!
so he could make a difference maybe he needs to do some thinking
and i think he needs to realize as does everyone else out there in the
world that people who like the same-sex as they are ARE EQUALY!!
WE ARE ALL EQUALY!!! our four fathers fought for us many years back
so we can be free and equal dont let what they died for mean nothing
now!!! EVERYONE NEEDS TO SPEAK UP ON HOW GAY PEOPLE SHOULD
BE EQUAL TO THE REST OF US JUST LIKE THEY ALWAY HAVE BEEN!!!
