Dora Grows Up
March 16, 2009

Mattel and Nickelodeon have announced that their fun-loving educational cartoon character, Dora The Explorer’, will grow up, get a new look and become a tween next fall. She will have a new electronic fashion doll line to match the new look.
A press release for the new ‘tween’ doll reads:
“As tweenage Dora, our heroine has moved to the big city, attends middle school and has a whole new fashionable look, Dora Grows Up!
“Girls really identify with Dora and we knew that girls would love to have their friend Dora grow up with them, and experience the new things that they were going through themselves.”
Mattel and Nick say Dora will stay true to her roots and maintain her educational values through mystery-solving, while remaining “innovative, diverse, wholesome, bi-lingual and entertaining.”
“The doll really taps into a tween’s love of fashion and empowers girls to influence and change the ‘lives’ of Dora and her friends”…
Get this, the new tweenaged fashion sensation will retail at $59.99. WHAT?! Yup!

Wow she got hot, Plastic Surgery?
March 17th, 2009 at 11:15 pm
looks more realistic than the football head dora.
people need to relax it is a doll……can’t believe the comments out there……yet we’ve let barbie continue to influence generations……yep makes senses to have a doll with arched feet for 5inch heels….vs a cute tween doll…
March 18th, 2009 at 11:55 am
OMG..I think its a good idea,as long as they keep the “young” one too for the little ones.
Its a doll people! Get a life & get over it. Worry about something else!
Barbie looked more sluttier then this tween doll…barbie had big boobs, butt, and all!
COME ON PEOPLE!!!!!!
March 18th, 2009 at 1:25 pm
Who the hell would take a doll seriously? Cartoon characters look
NOTHING like humans, yet they don’t say shit about it. They tried
making Barbie look human like as possible. Nothing is perfect.
People are just making a fuss over something stupid.
March 18th, 2009 at 2:21 pm
OMG!!!!I think its really cute that they are makin a new dora!!!Let them keep the younger one for the babies and this one for tweens!!!It would be really nice to have a change!!!After so many years!!!I’d like to see how the tweens would react to her
March 18th, 2009 at 2:58 pm
Its actually a very good idea. Because now tweens
can watch it & not the younger one. But I can also
Think its a bad idea because she has been around so long, so
I could see why so many parents are mad.
But they are still making new episodes of the “younger” one.
So they need to shimmer & just try to like the new one!

I disagree with this change simply because the focus of this character has always been on education and now it seem looks will be the drawing point. Many parents would agree, I believe, that that the fact that Dora was a child in search of knowledge, removed any attention that could be placed on the looks of the figure. I am afraid that changing the image of the figure to pre-teens will send the message that younger children should strive to look like this character.
March 18th, 2009 at 4:41 pm
Why does it matter what she looks like, Dora has to grow up sooner or later! Let it go kids need to realize what there growing up to. Parents shouldn’t be worried about unless they neglect or don’t teach there kids what common sense is.
March 18th, 2009 at 4:52 pm
I LOVE THE NEW DORA. SHE’S CUTE.
March 19th, 2009 at 8:45 am
I love the idea, so did my daughter which is now 10. She grew up with Dora and now had disliked Dora just because is a baby series. When we saw this article she got very excited that Dora had also be grown up, just like her. I think she will start to like Dora once more, now that the youngest is now the Dora fan in the house.
March 19th, 2009 at 10:24 am
This is a wonderful idea. My 9 year old still likes Dora and still
watches it with her younger sibling. She told me the other day
that maybe she was getting too old for her so now I will be able to
tell her that there is a Dora just for her. I think it’s a great idea
and well past the time to do it.
March 19th, 2009 at 2:11 pm
I am happy that they have decided to let Dora become a tween doll!!!
She looks perfect, i do not know why most people are blowing things
out of proportion… She does not look like a Britney or Lindsey
doll… My little cousins love to watch Dora and they are very happy
that she has grown and more kids will relate to her… Not because
they change looks that does not mean that its is going to be a bad
influence for your kids {after all, they too soon become a teen at
one point}…
March 19th, 2009 at 6:09 pm
dora looks cute but super trampy for little kids…what we want a bunch of tramps running around town and when ppl ask just say oh they 4sho r watching dora the tramplorer lol
March 20th, 2009 at 9:34 am
I am a parent of a child that is under 5. I understand they want to market Dora to make more money, but think about the influence this will have on these children. We are already worried about our children growing up too fast, so to take a very popular children’s show and market it to tweens is sending the wrong message. They are too worried about growing with their viewers but they are forgetting about the children that are born every year.
March 21st, 2009 at 2:21 am
if they’re trying to make Dora
more likable to everyone,
it’s not working
(;
March 21st, 2009 at 8:22 am
Okay to all the parents who obviously cant get past the doll part..
Its for TWEENS Ages 10-14 the original dora show is still gonna be
Going on they will be adding a new show for the older fans. If the parents are so worried about the kids watching the show heres an idea …. Turn the TV off when it gets to the show!! I personally see nothing wrong with it let dora grow up she needs to.
March 21st, 2009 at 10:28 am
First off, teens and tweens do not play with dolls anymore. Back when
I was little, we played with dolls, but not anymore. They have Zack and Cody, Hannah Montana, , rtc.
Leave Dora alone, she’s for little kids, teaches them about different things and how to do different things. AND- $60 for a freaking doll??? Come on! You can get a cute barbie for a whole lot less. They should have just made a new Spanish doll, little kids will now think they need to worry about how they look and not on the educational aspect of what Dora stands for.
Will Dora and Diego be dating now? Too much for little kids to understand.
March 21st, 2009 at 11:25 am
I like this tween Dora. I think cartoon characters should be allowed to grow up.
I just hope they don’t turn Dora into another fashionista icon which is now the media measuring stick for girls, i would love her if they trash the usual dress-up games and retain her explorer wit instead.
I swear i would throw up if they turn Backpack into a parlor-in-a-backpack.
March 21st, 2009 at 11:38 am
*beauty parlor
March 22nd, 2009 at 2:11 pm
I think it would be a good idea for her to grow up, Come on it HAS
been NINE years, don’t you think it’s about time she grew up? Do you
remember Rugrats? That kids TV show that was on alot? THEY Grew up,
Why can’t Dora? She should be allowed to grow up WITHOUT this
complaining It’s getting REALLY annoying!
March 22nd, 2009 at 3:05 pm
Also, I’m PRETTY sure Dora and Diego are COUSINS so, no, probably they
won’t be dating…
March 26th, 2009 at 4:32 pm
it is a good thing that dora grew up. i love the new dora!!!!
March 27th, 2009 at 4:21 pm
i think its a great idea because now the little kids have little 5 year old dora and the big kids or tweens have tween 12 year old dora and i dont know why people are so “oh no dora should stay the
same” and “no no leave it the way it is” and its mostly parent its like you guys dont watch tv that much and you sure nuff probably dont watch dora so dont get so worked up about it your babies and toddlers have plenty other shows to watch besides dora and who ever said the barbie thing is right barbie has cars, and a house, a husband, boyfriend, kids, parents, she pregnant, and you dont hear them saying nothin bout that so leave it as it is i like the new dora
March 27th, 2009 at 5:15 pm
You ppl should not be blowin dis stuff out of poportion. i loved dora and now i can love it again! Finally . why won’t ya’ll worry about da economy or ya’ll bills or sumthin’. GOODNEES PPL!!! Peace out
March 27th, 2009 at 5:41 pm
I’m having trouble understanding why it’s neccessary for Dora to grow up. I mean ofcourse they want more people to relate to her but this is very excessive. What are they going to do, make a new Dora for every age group as the years go by???? This is a cartoon people, not a human! I mean how many other cartoons grow up into older characters?? They’re supposed to be ageless duh. I mean Spongebob, Mickey Mouse and a number of all the other successful cartoons never age so why should this one?
March 27th, 2009 at 5:47 pm
i think its time for dora to grow up. I
March 27th, 2009 at 6:03 pm
hahahaha.
first i’m pretty sure that diego and dora are cousions so they will NOT be dating.
lol.
and i think that it’s funny. and this dora up here looks alot better. and just keep making little kitty shows and the new, and everything will be okay. (:
just don’t make her toooo trahy. and skanky. that would be baaaaaadd.
lol. (:
March 27th, 2009 at 7:16 pm
i don’t understand why people are so uptight about dolls these days. the only reason they dress like that is because it’s a trend. it does not particularaly mean it’s bad or anything.
March 27th, 2009 at 7:30 pm
I dont see the problem with this new dora. personally i think the new dora is cute. my little cousin looks just lik the new dora.
March 27th, 2009 at 8:12 pm
all the parents r just being a bit over controled!!!!!am a pre teen
and i just cant wait for the new dore so if u can parents,
JUST CHILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
March 27th, 2009 at 8:19 pm
I really don’t see the problem with this. I’m 14 and what’s the big deal?
I think she looks rather pretty and I used to make in fun of the show and now if they
come out with this. I’m going to for sure watch it. It looks actually interesting for a change.
Cartoon characters don’t have to be ageless forever. But if or when the show comes out
then we’ll really know how its going to work out.
March 27th, 2009 at 9:23 pm
THE DOLLS 4 TWEENS NOT CHILDREN ND THERES A DIFFERENCE
March 27th, 2009 at 9:33 pm
I love this new look for her!
& it would be a good look for my newphew to watch this new Dora show!
March 27th, 2009 at 9:46 pm
well…………….better
March 28th, 2009 at 1:47 pm
i think it’s a great idea for dora 2 grow up! anyways there still gonna b the 5 yr. old dora ! like CCOME ON PPLE! and 4 tha parents that says ” oh its bad that they do that!” no its not it’s like ya’ll dont want teenagers like me and others to watch our beloved dora. i remember when i was little i used haved to be watched by my aunt and when she wanted to talk 2 me i used to shush her upcuz i was watching dora .so give it a break pple !!!!!!!!!!!!
March 28th, 2009 at 5:59 pm
I think it is a great idea for girls 5 & up! They should also keep the old Dora for the younger kids. Dora is education this is why she should grow up. What is in now? Hanna Montanna, High School Musical, don’t ya’ll let them watch those shows. Yes, you do! So why not let they watch Dora and learn something in the process!
March 29th, 2009 at 12:01 am
I don’t think the new Dora is going to change what little boy’s or
girl’s act like. There young. They won’t go to pr-school or grade
school looking like that. She’s A Cartoon! No one impersonates a
cartoon. That’s my honest opinion.
April 2nd, 2009 at 5:32 am
DOOrraa i like dora is now….Awasome…dahsyat
April 4th, 2009 at 8:25 pm
I love the idea of the new Dora, I think she’s cute!
I do agree that they need to keep the younger Dora
around for toddlers to watch, but the “Tween” Dora
will be great for kids in that “middle” stage.
I think that the “Tween” Dora can be educational as
well, just with new ideas and lessons geared to late
Elementary kids versus babies. Chill Out people!
I mean, come on! They made a Pregnant Barbie as
well as the Brat dolls which resemble street walkers in
Las Vegas! At least the new Dora still looks like a child.
April 18th, 2009 at 7:51 pm
All of you idiots out there thats saying its no big deal to change Dora obviously dont have any children. She not just a doll, she an influenece on t.v. that million of children watch and looks up to. If its not that serious, what should we tell our 2 and 3 years old when dora suddenly has breast and a boyfriend. Come on lets get serious. We have enough Lindsey and Paris’s out there lets leave the inncocent in the kids…ASSHOLES
April 27th, 2009 at 5:18 pm

September 1st, 2009 at 4:41 pm
>.> No one even knows what the show is going to have anyways
I don’t even know either
Dora doesn’t even look like a tramp
all she has on is a head band, a dress, leggings, flats,
and her jewelry since she was younger.
there is nothing trampy about her
Just take a good look.
she is a TWEEN that means 10-14!!
clearly not for 8 year olds!
o_O why do you parents think that she is already going to have a boyfriend??
and become a prostitute?
[oh yeah tasha I'm talking to you and the rest of the parents]
Do you want you child to not have a sense of style?
just look at DORA!
SHE IS CUTE!
ever since she was what? 6?
they might not even have the show on nick jr.
they might have it on NICK
and there are other kinds of shows on NICK
that have 10-16 year olds that look just as cute as she does!
Remember! Dora is a cartoon! not a human!
>.< oh Lord this was a long rant
September 3rd, 2009 at 10:43 pm
Dora looks pretty but her show is boring.she like a teennager but she not like one she could not even help her self learn
September 5th, 2009 at 8:30 pm
Okay These people are getting way out of control, its just a doll.
it’s not like their canceling the orginal show. i think that its time
Dora grew up! I used to LOVE dora the explorer. News flash, you don’t
have to watch the show! If your going to say somethings inapiapit
(sorry about the spelling), have you seen the new Moxie Girls! Come
on people, we have other things to worry about!
September 15th, 2009 at 4:43 pm
i think that it is asome that there r making a new dora i was tired of seeing the old dora all of the time so it is asome
October 3rd, 2009 at 7:55 am
i have 4 children. my youngest daughter is 2 and she saw dora on the
tv at walmart a few weeks ago. she immediately knew who she was and
was estatic. i think the tween dora is good. it will give my
older children a chance to watch dora with my youngest as they dont
now because she is so young and they have outgrown her. she looks
very respectable. if she was trashy, her boobs would be hanging out
and she wouldnt have leggings under her skirt. and compared to some
of the other shows they have out for tweens right now, it think dora
would top the list. i would so much prefer them watching dora to
shows like pokemon, teen titans, or spongebob.
October 4th, 2009 at 5:17 pm
She ditched Boots!! NO ONE ditches the monkey!! although i have to admit, she looks awesome!!
October 4th, 2009 at 5:19 pm
She ditched Boots!! NO ONE ditches the monkey!!
Although i have to admit, she looks great!!
October 4th, 2009 at 7:08 pm
This comment is for all the ignornant parents leaving incredibly idiotic comments. First of all i am a parent of a 2.5 year old and I’m happy they’ll have an older dora for when he’s older. My big question is how can a parent worried about the influenceon children then leave comments telling off a bunch of Tweens using words like fucking asshole and idiots. Maybe you should look at the way you’re influencing the world and leave Dora alone!!!
December 19th, 2009 at 5:14 pm
I’m about to sound like a broken record. Dora will still be the same little kids tv show. However, when those little kids that love Dora grow up, they’ll still have the reliable Dora to watch through their tween years. She’s not going to change that much. Would you rather your ten year old watch Barbie or a tween Dora?
December 29th, 2009 at 4:47 pm
Right, for a start the new dora is not ‘sexy’ shes cute and shes grown up like all of our kids will do someday and if all of you parents cant get your head round it dont bother ranting on about how horrible it is its not going to get you anywhere because shes here if you dont like it dont show your kids right ? its not rocket science i dont mean to sound rude but if you dont like it the simple thing to do would be to not let your kids see it, old dora will still be on but its the same with ben 10 he grew up the whole idea is for the cartoon to be able to continue with your children as they grow up it might not be cool for a child of say 11 to watch ben 10 but it might be for 11 year old to watch ben 10 alien force because its more adult in a sense which is what theyve tried to do with dora, my niece who is now 8 loved dora the explora and now loves the new dora give the kids a chance there are still some that like the new dora and some parents do to, if you dont like it leave it alone..
January 27th, 2010 at 2:15 pm
Hmm! is this dora. Oh I, can’t believe. She is looking apselutelly
fabulous…….
April 4th, 2010 at 10:00 pm
HEY TASHA! THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH TWEEN DORA!!!! IF SHE IS A
TRAMPY PROSTITUTE THAN YOUNG DORA MUST HAVE BEEN A HOOKER THAT WOULD
DO CRAP FOR FREE HER SHIRT SHOWED HER BELLY AND HAD BOOTIE SHORTS ON
WANDERED AROUND IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE WITH WILD ANIMALS AND RAISED
FRIKIN BABIES WITH NO ADULT WHERE ARE HER PARENTS!!!!???? SHE LOOKS
NICE SO SHUTUP! ITS NOT LIKE SHE LOOKS A BRATZ DOLL SHE LOOKS LIKE
DIEGOS SISTER ALICIA O MI GOSH!!!
April 4th, 2010 at 10:03 pm
plus dora will still have her original show its not like their throwing
her out or anything
April 4th, 2010 at 10:08 pm
thank u stephanie for proving my point to tasha
January 14th, 2011 at 12:52 pm
I think that this is an OK idea..
I don’t know if it will really be a big hit, because
when I was little, Dora was amazing
And now I’m a teen,
I don’t think I’ll be able to connect with Dora.
Who will watch this show?
Tweens nowadays are more interested in shows like “iCarly” and
whatnot. I think this show may be a flop …
But, they should definitely keep the younger Dora
for the younger kids (:
March 30th, 2011 at 6:22 am
Very cute….
