Burger King’s New Texican Whopper Burger Ad Controversy

April 15, 2009

Controversy has hit over the new spicy advertising campaign for Burger King’s Texican Whopper burger.

The ad has sparked Mexican outrage, specifically over the use of the Mexican flag.
It has been running in Europe and shows a small wrestler type guy dressed in a cape resembling the Mexican flag. The wrestler teams up with a tall American cowboy to illustrate the cross-border blend of flavors.

A narrator’s voice says:

“The taste of Texas with a little spicy Mexican.”

In the video the taller cowboy lifts the wrestler up to reach high shelves and helps clean tall windows, while the wrestler helps the cowboy open a jar.

Mexico’s ambassador to Spain on Monday said he has written a letter to Burger King’s offices in that nation objecting and asking that it be removed.

Jorge Zermeno tells Radio Formula the ads: “improperly use the stereotyped image of a Mexican.”

Did BK go overboard with this new campaign??  Below is the much talked about print ad and above is the video of the commercial.

Big deal. If anybody was offended by that, they are an over-sensitive retard.

  6. EvinNRobsMom-Toni Says:

People need to quit being so overly sensitive. First off, I’m Mexican and I think it’s funny. Secondly, I think Mexico should be worrying about other things…like say their drug trade and keeping their citzens within their borders.

  7. eric Says:

I think it’s a good add. It’s just like that for real. We just saw some mexican just the other day and we, my girl and I, said to each other that for some reason they all are short, well most that is. Short and stockey. You can tell the mexicans here in the States. And they should be prowed to where the flag, it’s there flag.

If we cannot have a good laugh together, how can we live together.

    Let’s move on.

Unbelievable anything to scream racism.I would have never thought of
it in that way.Even pointing it out,I still see nothing racist in it.
Is this another boo hoo from some ignorant people who cannot see the
point the commercial is making.Just eat some so you can cry about your
    weight too….
