Bourne 4 May Not Happen
January 8, 2010

Rumor has it, Matt Damon isn’t that into making another Bourne movie right now.
Damon, who has played Jason Bourne in three films in the action franchise, The Bourne Identity (2002), The Bourne Supremacy (2004) and The Bourne Ultimatum (2007), is reportedly not ready to make a part 4 because he’s just “not excited” enough about it at the moment, and won’t go ahead without director Paul Greengrass on board.
Damon told Empire magazine:
“I’m certainly not going to do it without him. Paul said he won’t do it now… but if we could crack it, find out where the character could go, we’d do it right away. But it has to be something we’d be excited about. I think that would be the danger of doing ten. I think doing four is acceptable.”
Greengrass, who has been butting heads with Universal, doesn’t want to be involved because he doesn’t believe there’s anywhere else he could take Matt Damon’s character, saying:
“Obviously there was a great lure to come back because I love those movies. But you know, you need real fire in your belly to make a movie. You’ve got to have that absolute conviction that you know what you’re doing, and you’re going to try and achieve it. I didn’t want to just turn up.”
Greengrass gave a statement on his decision last month saying:
“You won’t find a more devoted supporter of the Bourne franchise than me. I will always be grateful to have been the caretaker to Jason Bourne over the course of The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum. I’m very proud of those films and feel they express everything I most passionately believe about the possibility of making quality movies in the mainstream. My decision to not return a third time as director is simply about feeling the call for a different challenge. There’s been no disagreement with Universal Pictures. The opportunity to work with the Bourne family again is a difficult thing to pass up, but we have discussed this together and they have been incredibly understanding and supportive. I’ve been lucky enough to have made four films for Universal, and our relationship continues. Jason Bourne existed before me and will continue, and I hope to remain involved in some capacity as the series moves on.”
Time will tell….

Both men are quite admirable to be thinking of the movie’s quality and characters rather than just making another movie to rake in millions of dollars. However personally, I am fine with just the three Jason Bourne movies.
