Borat’s fake version of the Kazakhstan Anthem was accidentally played during the medal ceremony at Kuwait’s 10th Arab Shooting Championship, and shockingly Sacha Baron Cohen had nothing to do with it.
Maria Dmitrienko, Kazakhstan shooting-team member, took to the stage to accept her gold medal for the country on Thursday and eveyone got an unexpected shock. Borat’s fake/spoof version of the Kazakhstan anthem was played through the loud speakers instead of the country’s real one.
It didn’t go over well, but Dmitrienko kept her cool while the anthem played. Later the team asked for an apology and the medal ceremony was redone.
The event’s organizers blamed the unfortunate mix up on a downloading error, but they also mixed up the Serbian national anthem.
