Billy Mays movie in the works?

June 30, 2009

Dailystab has learned that a major motion picture company may be negotiating the rights to a potential movie of Billy Mays life to be appropriately titled “Billy Mays Here” and they’re looking at funny man Steve Carell to play the high profile pitchman.

Billy Mays Here Movie

Carell, who co-wrote the original screenplay for the summer box-office smash, ‘The 40 Year Old Virgin‘ and was recently celebrated as ‘funniest man’ on the cover of Life Magazine, would portray Mays as he travels across the United States for several years, selling various items before he was hired to sell OxiClean and other products on the Home Shopping Network.  There are also hints at recreating some episodes of the documentary, ‘Pitchmen‘, with Anthony Sullivan’s parts to possibly be cameo by another semi-comedic actor, Owen Wilson.

Now please keep in mind, this is from the same tipster that told you Christian Bale is in talks to star In Terminator 4, which we took quite a beating on.   We took heat for weeks and needless to say our backs were against the wall and “When I’m up against a wall, that’s when Billy Mays performs best.”

That script actually came across my desk. It was called “Three Easy Payments” and was about a fictional Mays-type character.

Great script, glad to see it’s being made.

You’ve got to be kidding me. Are movie ideas so hard to come up with nowsdays that you have to make up this crap.

  3. Jac Says:

I’m so sick of this Billy Mays nonsense. I’m sure he was a great guy,
but he was famous for hocking cheap crap on late night tv. Calling him
a celebrity is a stretch, making a movie about him is downright
    ridiculous.

  4. Dave Says:

Jac apparently never used any billy products.

  5. John Davis Says:

Wow, I would watch that movie!

Roscoe, they actually say that in the article…
There are also hints at recreating some episodes of the documentary, ‘Pitchmen

I would NEVER buy anything Billy Mays was hawking. If it worked, it would be in Walmart soon enough.

I’ve known too many that have been scrwed getting junk or overcharged with shipping charges.

The new show ‘Pitch Men’ portrays him as a nice guy, but movie worthy? gimme a break.

  10. Wade Says:

I Can’t belive the nerve of some people (JAC) did you ever meet Billy Mays? He was a great guy who would go out of his way for perfect strangers.thats just what he did and to put the mans style and the way he made a living down just after he died. That is why the word (JAC) in put in front of the word (ASS) I guess because some people just can’t help but make an ASS out of themselves when it comes to others. I would be quick to say that Jac Is the kinda guy that wouldn’t open the door for an old lady..who knows thats just my oppinion.Anyway I’ll miss Billys commercials, And my condolances go out to his wife and children.

  11. Jac Says:

Wow, that was clever Wade, especially since you’re the first person to ever make that joke about my name. What exactly do you disagree with about my statement? I’m not criticizing him as a person because I didn’t know him personally. I’m just saying that he was famous for being in commercials. He wasn’t an actor, artist, or musician, he sold crap on tv. Making a movie about someone who’s most famous for being in commercials is just stupid.

  12. Dank Says:

So they should continue making movies that require guys running from explosions, or screaming towards the sky as the top-down camera zooms out (I just watched the new X-Men)? What I’m trying to say is that movies nowadays are so repetitive, that you really shouldn’t stoop to criticizing someone for making something different, such as “a movie about someone who’s most famous for being in commercials”. The idea is definitely not stupid, and I think a movie about Billy Mays would rule.

  14. Jason H Says:

I think a movie is a poor idea. A documentary about his climb to the
top and what the life a pitchman is like. He is one of a kind, no one
should try a pretend to be him. A movie should be made about the ups
and downs in life as a pitchman. I for one would never watch a movie
with an actor trying to be Billy

  15. Chris Says:

I think Steve Carell could make a good Billy Mays, provided it’s done right. If Steve plays Billy as one of his usual “bumbling idiot” roles, that could easily ruin the whole movie. If it were up to me, it’d have subtle comedy while not being too dark either.

  16. Scott Says:

To be honest, Billy Mays and the channels that aired his commercials should be fined. It seems that whenever his commercials came on, they were louder than the others. For this reason, I never bought his products. And I will not see a movie about his life. If there is a movie about Billy Mays, you can expect to be yelled at. Also, what did he do that was so great? He promoted products while branding himself. Actually, he promoted himself first, then promoted the product. I am glad to see that I finally have the last word. Your a jerk.

  17. Andy Says:

This is ridiculous. The movie and every one talking about how Billy Mays was such a “good person” andall that. Seriously! How many of the people defending him can actually say they met him? How many people would say that they met Michael Jackson? It doesn’t matter what he did. All these people who are “mourning” over the celeberties deaths need to get over themselves. It is annoying and disrespectful to the families because you are trying to put yourselves on the level of the family members by saying “He was such a great person” “I will miss him”. You didn’t know him, so get over yourselves!!!
