72-Year-Old Woman Gets Tasered
June 11, 2009
A 72-year-old woman from Texas, Kathryn Winkfein was tasered with an electronic stun gun after putting up a fight over a speeding ticket.
Deputy constable Chris Bieze stopped Winkfein on a Highway, where they had a confrontation over a speeding ticket.
Reportedly, she dared the cop to use the taser on her and became combative in the cops face. She was not injured but a case has been filed against the cop.
The officers superior, Sergeant Major Gary Griffin, said Mrs Winkfein “made a very simple interaction with the police a very difficult task“, but Mrs Winkfein denies being argumentative.

The police officer was wrong in shocking the 72 year old woman. What does he think would have happened if she has a PACE MAKER OR DEFIBRILLATOR?? He could have killed her. I do think she was wrong, she was verbally out of line. However, she never touched him, did not have a weapon, his life was not in danger!! To see a police officer grab her like that that, and uses force like that isvery much an eye opener on his temper!!!

This is not going to be the popular post but personally,
I think the cop showed a lot of restraint in not tasering her
sooner. If he had been dealing with a man there would not have been
5 warnings before the taser was fired. The lady evidently forgot
that police cars has dash cams when she decided to give her interview.
Notice that now the video has been released she is no longer
interested in telling her story of police abuse. If I had been in
the cops shoes, she would have been tasered as soon as the
phrase “I dare you” passed her lips. Kudos to the officer on
giving grumpy grandma as more chances to comply than expected.
Being elderly doesn’t give anyone an excuse to act like that.

Just because someone is old does not make them “nice old people” my
mom is old and is mean and nasty.

The woman didn’t need to be tasered under any circumstances.
Why taser anybody? Because it’s a non lethal alternative to an actual
gun. You use a taser when you feel the situation is physically out of
hand and there’s no alternative.
Fact is, there were plenty of alternatives for that cop to handle the
woman. She was 72 years old, for Chrissakes! And FOUR FOOT ELEVEN!!!
This cop provoked her the moment he pushed her. “To keep her out of
danger from traffic”? BULLSHIT! He shoved her, because he’s plainly
a bully who can only pick on old ladies.
This cop is a pussy and a coward, and doesn’t deserve to wear a badge.

That Police officer warned her five times that he was going to taser her if she did not step back and she said “Go ahead, I dare you” If she was worried about her heart she would have said something. When she was in her truck she dared him to arrest her on the grounds that she was “A 72 year old woman” She made that so much harder than that had to be. When he said “put your hands behind your back” she twisted away from him and told him she was going back to her truck. She was being a stupid jerk from the moment he asked her to sign the ticket. I hope and pray that she is convicted for risisting arrest and does jail time.

Some thoughts and observations
What did the cops do before tasers? If it were 15 years ago, and Johny Lawless pulled over Granny Whitehair, and she behaved this way, would he have shot her?
Many people have commented on how the elderly lady should have complied. My Grandmother would have read him the riot act about respecting your elders!
It seems to me this all boils down to a case of control. The cop felt he was entitled to hold control over the taxpaying citizen. Obviously the elderly woman felt otherwise. Why does the cop even care if he has control over the driver. In the end, he issued the ticket, and the government will receive their money. WHO CARES if she signed it?!? The cop felt he should have control, the driver did not wish to surrender control, and ultimately for that, she got tasered. Even if the cop is cleared of all wrongdoing, he still looks like a bully.
On the note of taxpaying citizens. We pay taxes for various government services. If the government fails to provide said services, are we entitled to a refund?
I have a relative in law enforcement here in Texas. From what I have been told, if you refuse to sign a ticket, it is grounds for arrest. How ignorant is that? Just mail the ticket. If they refuse to pay it, escalate the charges.
What if this were between two civilians. If one were refusing to comply with a demand of the other, is it OK for the one making the demands to initiate some form of “pain compliance” to gain control of the situation?
While I agree, the elderly woman could have behaved with a bit more civility, as an american she is well within her right to tell the cop to frack off. Further, what does it matter how she behaved. The cop accomplished both parts of his cop credo: “To Protect” he pulled the woman over, and removed her from the path of the construction workers; “To Serve” he issued (read served) the driver a traffic citation.
Personally, I think the cop should be reprimanded, possibly even fired. The woman should just go home. If she was not severly injured by the taser, then leave it at that. Hopefully all parties observing this incident will learn from it, and improve the way they operate.
The end…

I say the cop should get attempted murder. Unbelievably incompetent.

The woman disrespected the law. She asked for it.
