It must be hard to shut off the outside world but these 5 celebrities all say they ignore the gossip constantly circulating about themselves. Managing to block out the press, critics and everyone else who talks about them, these stars refuse to listen to the rumors and other news, much of which they know is fabricated or exaggerated and might upset them. Now that people have internet even while on the go, it must be even harder for these stars to avoid gossip. Many celebrities are twitter users, snap Instagram pics and technology connects everyone – it’s even possible to play Paddypower bingo on your mobile. It’s must be difficult for them to block off the swirling rumors and avoid everything but they say it’s the healthiest option for them when it comes to dealing with the media.
Anna knows most gossip isn’t true so she ignores it: “Ninety-nine per cent of the things I read about, I didn’t even do them! Whether I’m being careful or really enjoying myself and having fun, it doesn’t matter – the next day they want to write about me anyway. I like to have fun, so I’m just going to be me. I’m not going to pretend. Sometimes it’s really over exaggerated, these
amazing fairy tales. My life is really not as exciting as they make it out to be. My life is much more simple. If I were to go out and set straight every single rumour, I would have no time to do anything else.”
Britney thinks the media can be incredibly cruel and she’s learned to ignore it: “I try not to let it get to me. People talk. You just try to keep doing what you do and, as long as you know what’s up, and you know what’s true, then that’s all that really matters. I guess people say what they want and do what they do. It’s sad how cruel people can be. At the end of the day, you’ve just got to know in your heart that you’re doing the best that you can and that’s basically it.”
Gwyneth doesn’t worry about what people think anymore: “I don’t hold on to fear as much as I used to, because I’ve learned a lot about genuinely not caring what strangers think about me. It’s very liberating. It’s very empowering, and I’ve learned a lot of that from Jay – Shawn Carter – Z, because his approach to life is very internal. It’s a very good lesson to learn.”
Kristen has learned not to care: ”The spotlight is not something I get off on. You can’t let it stunt you. Though, that’s the thing. It’s a huge change that I’ve definitely noticed within myself from the beginning to the end of this – that I’m more comfortable with walls being down. Because you can actually have human experiences and not deprive yourself of a normal life. You get too caught up in what other people think of you, then who the f**k are you? You start to become a really disjointed persona and everyone’s perception is their own.”
Taylor says ignoring stories is the best way to cope: “Fame just kind of happens overnight. No one prepares you for it. On ‘Gossip Girl’, I was just going to work, doing what I’ve always done, and then all of a sudden you’re like, ‘Woah!’ But you get used to it. You ignore it – because whatever people say about me doesn’t bother me at all. If you’re in high school or college or at work, someone’s not going to like you. It’s inevitable. But it doesn’t mean anything.”
