While plenty of people dislike seeing spiders crawling around their homes or freak out when they find one on themselves, these 5 celebrities all have a real fear of spiders and suffer from Arachnophobia. Some have come in direct contact with a spider and completely freaked out or got upset by the experience because it triggered their phobia. Others do everything they can to avoid spiders – one celeb has even refused to visit Australia in the past because they were worried about bumping in to a spider on their trip. Their fear of spiders really affects them and they have a hard time being anywhere that might even just be a possible place to find one of these creepy crawlies!
Halle was disturbed to find spiders all over her yard: “(There were) hundreds under this lawn chair that we would all sit on around the pool every other day. We found out there was a whole village, a colony of black widows… One of the gardeners decided he should clean it and when he looked under it it was like, ‘Argh!’ I just left… I said, ‘I’m gonna leave and you’re gonna have to handle that because I can’t stand spiders…’ I don’t even like Daddy Long Legs (crane flies).”
Rose had a freak out when she found a spider in her car: “I was driving along and just where the sun visor is a spider dropped right down, a huntsman, and it spread out its legs right in front of me and I think it looked at me. I’m pretty sure it looked at me. I just went, (screams), and ran off to the side of the road and got out of the car and brushed myself off madly. I was like, ‘Ok, alright, great great, great,’ got back into the car, drove along. Then it came up again onto the dashboard and I’m a bit scared of spiders, so I was totally, totally panicked. So I was like, (screams again), pulled over, rolled down the windows and went for like an hour walk to make sure the spider got out of the car.”
Jennifer was frightened of shooting scenes in the Hawaiian jungle because of her spider fear: ”Everybody told me there were no spiders, so when I saw three, I started crying. Jungles are not easy when you’re afraid of everything. I think I am a legitimate alcoholic. No, what’s it called? An Arachnophobic.”
Derren can’t stand being anywhere near a spider: “I couldn’t sleep if there was a spider in the room, but I’d at least be able to stick a glass over it, I had a fear about that blokeish environment, rooted in a feeling of total inadequacy, which is what fear is. But I came across the idea of running towards the things that frighten you. When you do it, you realise it’s nothing at all.”
Rupert believes the fear has affected him numerous times throughout his life: “I’m arachnophobic. It’s really affected my life. I check my shoes every time I put them on. I check my bed sheets and pillows. I’m going to Australia in a few weeks. I’ve never been before – spiders have always stopped me.”
